Our Licencing Team are on the lookout for a dedicated Public Protection Officer to join us and make a real difference Wiltshire’s Public Protection Service brings together licensing, food and health & safety, trading standards, animal health, environmental protection, ASB, dog wardens and pest control. This temporary role will centre around project work to develop a risk-based approach to tackle animal licensing complaints and to determine priorities against statutory powers. This will include undertaking visits, policy and report writing, maintaining accurate records, recommending actions, and conducting criminal investigations that may lead to prosecution. The role will also involve working with colleagues in animal health, trading standards, environmental protection and the dog warden team. As a Public Protection Officer, you may also be undertaking other statutory functions and enforcement on behalf of the licensing authority, which includes licensing for alcohol, regulated entertainment, late-night refreshment and gambling premises. Our ideal candidate will have specific professional and technical skills, and a background in licensing or similar enforcement role. You should have specialist and up to date knowledge of a wide range of diverse licensing functions and procedures, including animal licensing. The ability to interpret legislation and statutory guidance and showcase a proven track record of project management are critical to the role. A strong understanding of licensing legislation alongside experience in serving notices, instigating formal actions and evaluating options to determine the most appropriate course of action will be essential.
