Applications are invited for a full-time Research Associate/Fellow position within the George Green Institute for Electromagnetic Research and Power Electronics Machines and Control research groups.
The successful candidate will support an active research project aimed at understanding EMI issues in a HVDC substation. The role will involve developing models to predict EMI levels and validating these models against available data. The models will then be used to evaluate design improvements to mitigate/reduce identified issues.
Candidates must hold or be working towards a PhD in a relevant subject area, with experience in research being highly desirable. Candidates should also possess the ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary research team and have excellent communication and presentation skills.
Technical skills and knowledge in the following areas are essential:
1. Knowledge of EMC/EMI in high power/high voltage electrical systems
2. Experience using Finite-Element software packages (e.g., Ansys or CST) for prediction of EMI
3. Experience using circuit simulation software (e.g., SPICE, PLECS, PSIM) for electrical/electronic circuit simulation
Ideally, the successful candidate will also have some knowledge of high-power, high-voltage power electronic converter topologies and/or practical EMI/EMC testing.
This post is available on a fixed-term basis until 14th January 2026. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours). Job share arrangements may be considered.
Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered, provided prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post.
