PCN Enhanced Nurse Practitioner - Respiratory Specialist
An experienced Enhanced Nurse Practitioner with a specialist interest in respiratory care is sought to join our Primary Care Network (PCN). This role combines advanced clinical practice with leadership in respiratory services across multiple GP practices within the network.
Main duties of the job
A senior clinical role responsible for providing expert respiratory care across the Primary Care Network. The post holder will independently assess, diagnose and treat patients with respiratory conditions, while also leading the development of respiratory services. Key duties include performing specialist assessments like spirometry, prescribing medications, managing complex cases, and providing clinical leadership. They will support other staff whilst working collaboratively across multiple GP practices within the network.

Nexus MK PCN is a collection of five practices serving a population of 50,000+ patients in the Milton Keynes area. Nexus MK PCN is comprised of Oakridge Park Medical Centre, Wolverton Health Centre, Sovereign Medical Centre, Purbeck Health Centre and The Stonedean Practice. Each of the five practices in Nexus MK have signed up to the Network Contract DES which details their core services and entitlements.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Practice
1. Provide autonomous clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with respiratory conditions, including but not limited to asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, and interstitial lung disease.
2. Perform specialist respiratory assessments including spirometry interpretation, peak flow monitoring, and oxygen therapy assessment.
3. Prescribe medications within your scope of practice and in accordance with local formularies and guidelines.
4. Manage complex respiratory cases and coordinate care with secondary care services when necessary.
Service Development
1. Lead the development and implementation of respiratory care pathways across the PCN.
2. Establish and maintain clinical protocols and guidelines for respiratory care.
3. Coordinate with practice nurses and healthcare assistants to ensure consistent respiratory care delivery.
4. Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance respiratory services.
5. Monitor and evaluate service outcomes using audit and research methodologies.
Education and Leadership
1. Provide clinical leadership in respiratory care across the PCN.
2. Deliver education and training to primary care colleagues on respiratory care management.
3. Mentor and support other nursing staff in developing respiratory care skills.
4. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case reviews.
5. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of respiratory care guidelines and evidence-based practice.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (NMC registration)
* Master's level Advanced Clinical Practice qualification or equivalent
* ARTP certification in spirometry performance and interpretation
* Minimum 5 years post-registration nursing experience
* At least 2 years in an advanced practice role
* Demonstrated expertise in respiratory disease management
* Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
* Experience using clinical systems and IT
* Evidence of leadership abilities
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Current knowledge of respiratory care guidelines
* Experience in multidisciplinary team working
* Quality improvement project experience
* Experience working across multiple sites
* Member of respiratory specialist networks
* Publication/presentation experience in respiratory care
* Experience in developing clinical protocols
* Previous PCN or primary care experience
