Job overview
Brainbow was founded in 2013 as the first dedicated Neuro-Oncology rehabilitation service in the UK. The service was established by three local East of England charities, founded by the parents of children with brain tumours. Brainbow was launched with the aim ‘to ensure that all children with Brain Tumours reach their full potential’.
Over the past 10 years, the department has grown and adapted to best meet the needs of the children and family it serves and is now a fully funded NHS Service. Brainbow is a Multidisciplinary Team made up of a Clinical Lead, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Education and Clinical Psychology. The department is supported by a Service Manager and Administrative Assistant.
This advert is for a fixed term, Band 7 Occupational Therapist. This role works predominantly within the Brainbow Team seeing children and young people up to the age of 16 within the Outpatient setting, however there is scope to support the Inpatient teams with assessment and intervention and peer support from other Occupational Therapists that work within Children’s Services.
Main duties of the job
To provide a highly specialised Children’s Occupational Therapy Service to children under the care of Paediatric Oncology both in the Inpatient and Outpatient setting.
You will be part of a wider team of Therapists delivering a coordinated Neuro Rehabilitation Service.
You will offer liaison with local Children’s Occupational Therapy Services for children from shared Care Centres and offer occasional Outreach Services to children at home.
You will be responsible for supporting fellow members of the Neuro-oncology Rehabilitation Team, so it can deliver the highest possible standard of service within Paediatric Oncology.
