Our North London Barking division located in Barking is recruiting for an Apprentice Groundworker.
How does the apprenticeship programme work?
Our exciting and innovative Apprenticeship Programmes are designed to attract and develop a diverse range of talented individuals who will contribute to the continued growth and success of our business.
You will be studying towards a Level 2 Groundworks qualification, which will be delivered by NHBC Training. As part of this apprenticeship, you will undergo 2 weeks of intensive hands-on training at the NHBC training hub, after which you will be ready to go on-site, health and safety aware and with sufficient skills to positively contribute. You will then return to the NHBC training hub every 5-6 weeks for blocks of intensive learning. All travel and accommodation required will be provided by Bellway.
The location of workplace for the candidate will be confirmed upon appointment, however, this will be placed across Barking.Please note travel is required as part of this role.
The Role
As an Apprentice Groundworker, you will work as part of the Construction Department.
Some key responsibilities of the role include:
* Systems of safe working
* Setting out, buried services and ironworks
* Construction methods and communicating with others
* Gauging, mixing, placing, compacting, and finishing construction mortars and concrete (kerbing and shuttering)
* Installing drainage and ducting
* Reinstating excavations and ground surface finishes
* Working effectively as part of a team and with other trades

* Course Duration: up to 18 months, plus end point assessment (EPA)

In addition to this, we are looking for apprentices with the following:
* Obtained or expected GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above however, if you don’t already have GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 or above, you will need to take the Functional Skills Level 2 test before taking your end point assessment with NHBC and gaining your qualification.
* Willingness to travel around the UK and stay away from home for short periods of time
* Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business
* In order to be considered for this programme you must be able to prove eligibility to work in the UK
