The post-holder will undertake phlebotomy and appropriate healthcare technician duties within the local practice setting, patients' homes, and care homes, ensuring high-quality delivery of patient care.
Main duties of the job
Health and Safety
1. To comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
2. To take responsibility for their own health and safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their own acts or omissions.
3. To ensure all staff are fully trained and conversant with fire regulations and health and safety and understand what to do in an emergency.
4. Ensure a trained first aider is available in the building.
5. Ensure fire alarms are tested regularly and within the set guidelines.

Job responsibilities
1. To undertake any other duties commensurate with the role, within the bounds of his/her own competence as guided by the attached management framework.
2. To work across the various MMP sites as required.
3. In light of national policy and due to the needs of the business, it may be necessary for the Partnership to alter the opening hours of the surgeries. This could incorporate different opening hours and weekend working which may affect when you are required to work. The post holder is expected to be flexible and accommodating, following consultation, in terms of any changes to operating times in the future.
4. To undertake appropriate tasks and support the larger MMP healthcare team.
5. To undertake Blood Pressure monitoring in accordance with MMP protocols.
6. To perform ECGs on patients as requested.
7. To carry out phlebotomy services to patients in MMP surgeries across Birmingham, at patients' homes and in care homes.
8. To ensure that blood samples taken are accurately and legibly labelled, correct bottles are used, and that blood samples are transported to designated collection points in line with MMP Health and Safety procedures.
9. Provide support at practice level to nursing and clinical staff, in particularly complex cases.
10. To work effectively with other healthcare professionals as an integrated team.
11. To provide basic first aid to phlebotomy patients as required in accordance with guidelines and procedures.
12. To ensure a good rapport with patients to alleviate anxiety, ensuring they are relaxed and at ease to undergo procedures.
13. To ensure the following MMP Policies are followed: Infection Control Policy, Clinical Waste Disposal and Sharps Policy, Needle stick injury Policy.
14. Acknowledge that patients have the right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality, showing due regard to patients' property.
15. To provide cover for team members on annual leave, off sick, or study leave to ensure continuity of the service.
16. Act as a role model to ensure health is promoted at every opportunity in all settings.
17. To maintain written and computer records as required.
18. To attend team meetings for information exchange and service updates.
19. The post holder will be asked to work at any MMP site in line with service needs.
20. Any other duties, as requested, compatible with the post which may arise from time to time.
21. To undertake training and development to meet the specific service needs of the service and own individual practice.
22. Participate in the appraisal, clinical supervision, and personal development planning process and ensure that their own professional development needs are met.
23. Participate in the induction of staff by demonstrating own role to new or less experienced colleagues.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of working within a nursing team.
* Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients.
* Experience of working in primary care.
* Experience of working in a GP practice.
Qualifications
* GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths.
* Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care.
* Qualified in Phlebotomy.
* Qualified to NVQ level 3.
