Anderson Knight is currently recruiting a Category Manager for one of our clients based in West Dumbartonshire.
As the Category Manager you will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships, optimising costs, and ensuring compliance across the procurement lifecycle. The ideal candidate will bring in-depth knowledge of the maritime industry, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to manage complex procurement categories such as marine fuel, ship spares, technical services, port agency, and logistics.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and execute category strategies aligned with company objectives and operational needs.
* Lead sourcing initiatives, including RFPs, tendering, and contract negotiations for assigned categories.
* Conduct market analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within the maritime procurement landscape.
* Build and manage relationships with strategic suppliers, ensuring performance, compliance, and value delivery.
* Drive continuous improvement in cost, service levels, sustainability, and risk mitigation.
* Collaborate with technical, operations, legal, and finance teams to align procurement activities with business priorities.
* Monitor supplier KPIs and resolve performance issues in a timely manner.
* Ensure all procurement activities adhere to internal policies, legal frameworks, and industry standards.
* Prepare reports, spend analyses, and savings trackers for senior management.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s or CIPS certification is a plus).
* 5+ years of experience in strategic sourcing or category management, preferably in the shipping, oil & gas, or maritime sector.
* Solid understanding of procurement best practices, contract law, and supplier management.
* Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
* Proven track record of delivering cost savings and added value through category strategies.
* Experience working in a cross-functional, multicultural environment
