The opportunity
Our Maternal and Child Health team is calling for expressions of interest from qualified and enthusiastic Immunisation Nurses to join our casual pool. You will work collaboratively to strengthen the wellbeing of children, young people and families within the City of Maribyrnong, by providing a comprehensive program to minimise the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases.
This position requires a high standard of clinical expertise and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of practice directions at a local, state and federal level. To be successful, you will also have well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex vaccine information in plain language, whilst working effectively with a culturally and linguistically diverse range of parents and children with individual needs.
Key responsibilities:
* Independently run an immunisation appointment clinic at various locations within the City of Maribyrnong, providing a quality immunisation service which is safe, comprehensive and client-focused;
* Work within a team of nurse immunisers and administration staff to provide an immunisation program to secondary school students within the municipality;
* Ensure the vaccine cold chain is maintained at all times and that staff are aware of and adhere to these procedures;
* Ensure vaccines are given competently and in accordance with the Australian National Immunisation Program, AIR requirements, DHS - Immunisation section guidelines and Maribyrnong City Council policies and procedures;
* Provide excellent documentation of vaccines administered to clients and upload the data onto CIRV and AIR databases;
* Develop and present education on immunisation for immunisation staff, Maternal and Child Health nurses, Family and Children's Services staff, the organisation and the community as required;
* Report adverse immunisation reactions to SAEFVIC.
To be considered for this role, you will have the following:
* Current Registration with AHPRA as a registered nurse with nurse immuniser accreditation;
* Previous experience working as an immunisation nurse with children and young people, independently and in local government and in school immunisation programs (desirable);
* Knowledge of immunisation databases such as AIR and IMPS.
This position also requires:
* A current certificate in CPR and managing immunisation emergencies;
* A current Working with Children's Check;
* No relevant criminal record found in a police check;
