The Hospital Manager’s retain the ultimate responsibility for the execution of all duties or acts carried out by staff in relation to the Mental Health Act (MHA) 1983 including ensuring that the grounds for detaining patients are valid and legal.
The post holder is expected to provide administrative support to assist the Mental Health Law Administrator, to maintain compliance with Mental Health Law process and best practice, and ensure that the legal requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 are adhered to.
• Be an initial point of contact within the Mental Health Law (MHL) Office.
• Ensure effective liaison with all localities by MHL administration services.
• Participate in meetings relating to MHL administration services. This may include minute taking.
• Ensure timely, effective and professional communication by the MHL administrators.
• Support the process for ensuring that all detained patients are aware of their rights and that this is recorded.
• Deal with queries from service users or their carers using tact and empathy as required and ensuring appropriate communication skills are used at all times
• Oversee the process of organising and arranging Mental Health Tribunal and Hospital Manager Reviews.
• Request Mental Health Tribunal and Hospital Manager Reviews reports and escalate concern in the absence of the Mental Health Law Administrator to ensure that deadlines are met by other team members and colleagues.
