I am working on behalf of a special secondary school in Exeter that are looking for a qualified teacher to join them in January, teaching science to students aged 11 - 16 with a variety of special needs, mainly associated with social, emotional and mental health challenges.
The school can be a challenging environment to work in due to the needs of the students, but it is also incredibly rewarding. You will be part of an incredibly supportive team who are a tight-knit bunch.
About the role:
This role requires you to teach science predominantly at KS3 level but you must be able to teach up to GCSE. Experience in teaching science is essential as you will be expected to plan and deliver your own lessons, alongside marking students’ work and assessing progress.
Due to the needs of the students, you must be calm and confident in dealing with challenging behaviour, possess a lot of resilience and have a naturally calming demeanour. You will also be supported by fantastic learning support assistants within the classroom. This is an exciting opportunity for you to make a real impact!
About the school:
The school is an incredible provision, providing a safe and enjoyable learning environment for young boys who may not have had the best start in life. You will be working with young people with challenging behavioural needs as they may have experienced trauma, have ADHD or autism, amongst other needs.
Our school is diligent in supporting the wellbeing of their staff. Full training and support is provided, you have daily safeguarding meetings before and after school and counselling is provided to all staff. You will be part of a friendly, close-knit and supportive team.
