The Navy Command finance team provides vital support to and enabling of Royal Navy front line Operations, activities, and programmes both within the UK and globally. The team manages a budget of c. £11Bn per annum and delivers a wide range of high-quality and complex financial outputs including direction and advice to senior leaders and teams across Navy comprising both armed forces and civilian personnel.
The Senior Finance Business Partner roles are pivotal in delivering strategic financial advice to Navy Command Directors and in managing key stakeholder relationships with Delivery Agents and MOD Head Office.
The Senior Finance Business Partners manage teams of finance professionals in the provision of timely and accurate direction, advice and guidance on financial forecasts and plans including identification and assessment of financial risk.
We are therefore looking for individuals who have a track record of delivering strong leadership and collaborative working skills coupled with commitment, enthusiasm and a desire to deliver high quality financial outputs in a fast paced and demanding environment.
The positions are advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
These are critical roles within the Navy Finance Directorate and job holders will be key members of the Finance Senior Leadership Team enabling the delivery of both finance function and wider Royal Navy strategic objectives and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities are:
* Leadership of the Finance Business Partner teams, setting clear direction and empowering and motivating team members in the delivery of outputs whilst supporting individual professional and career development.
* Analysis, scrutiny and presentation of financial information to senior leaders within Navy Command (particularly in respect to in-year forecast, financial planning submissions, financial approvals and risk).
* Providing insight to senior leaders on key issues, risks and opportunities associated with financial submissions, choices and options.
* Building, sustaining and leveraging business and financial information to inform decision making and drive value in enabling the Command to deliver strategic objectives.
* Delivery of clear advice, guidance and direction on finance and accounting policy and procedural issues.
* Promoting continuous improvement of systems and processes through identification and sharing of best practice and leading input to change initiatives targeted at optimising service delivery in Navy Command.
* Regular briefing of Navy Command Directors and teams on financial issues.
* Managing key stakeholder relationships with Delivery Agents (for example Defence Equipment and Support, Defence Infrastructure Organisation and Submarine Delivery Agency) and MOD Head Office.
* Supporting Departmental and Government Finance Function initiatives.
Person specification
The successful candidates will:
* Have an excellent track record of developing and leading high performing teams in the delivery of a range of financial outputs.
* Have experience of briefing and providing insight on complex financial information simply and effectively to a range of stakeholders.
* Demonstrate an ability to collaborate effectively with a range of different internal and external stakeholders.
* Have a proven commitment to continuous improvement with demonstrable experience of challenging and improving business processes and systems.
* Demonstrate excellent analytical skills including review and challenge of a range of financial submissions.
* Have experience of providing complex advice and guidance in supporting decision making and delivery of strategic objectives.
* Have a commitment to continuing professional development.
Qualifications
The successful candidates will be CCAB or CIMA qualified accountants.
