Job Purpose:
We are thrilled to be working with our client, a leading Public Sector body, in the search for an Enforcement Officer.
To support the Environmental Health Business Plan by delivering customer-focused, innovative services in line with the Council’s Corporate Plan. Duties include dog licensing, litter control, fly-tipping, graffiti, dog control, tobacco control, abandoned vehicles, animal welfare, and educational campaigns.
Principal Responsibilities:
Enforce Environmental Legislation:
* Enforce Dog Control Orders, investigate littering and illegal dumping, conduct patrols, and maintain records.
* Identify and report fly posting and graffiti.
Dog Control:
* Handle complaints about unlicensed, stray, or dangerous dogs.
* Investigate dog attacks, collect unwanted dogs, and provide advice to dog owners.
Smoking Legislation Compliance:
* Inspect smoke-free premises and report noncompliance.
Animal Welfare:
* Assist Animal Welfare Officers with investigations and inspections of breeding establishments.
* Maintain animal welfare standards.
Statutory Notices and Prosecution:
* Prepare and serve statutory notices, gather evidence, and present in court.
Abandoned Vehicles:
* Investigate and assist in removing abandoned vehicles.
Educational Activities:
* Participate in community and school educational campaigns.
Policy and Procedure Development:
* Contribute to policy development and service improvement.
Outdoor and Lone Working:
* Perform duties outdoors in various weather conditions with appropriate PPE.
Council Vehicle Operation:
* Drive and maintain a Council vehicle per Fleet Management Policy.
Training and Supervision:
* Assist in training student and new Environmental Health Officers.
Flexible Working:
* Be available for duties outside normal working hours as required.
General Responsibilities:

* Additional relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
* Minimum of 5 GCSEs (including English Language Grades A-C) or equivalent.
* 6 months’ relevant experience including report preparation and public interaction.
* Competent in IT systems, effective communication skills, and ability to work unsupervised.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and ability to attend court as required
* Full current driving licence or access to suitable transport.
Desirable:
* Relevant third-level qualification.
* Experience in enforcing legislation, giving evidence in court, and working with dogs.
