Our Service is one of the few specialist centres across the country delivering clinical excellence in the highly specialised field of chronic pelvic pain. The role will allow you to work alongside a close-knit multidisciplinary team comprising of:
* Physiotherapists
* Clinical Psychologists
* Consultant gynaecologists
* GPs with specialist interest in pelvic pain
* Nurses
Our aim is to provide a responsive, high quality and person-centred service to maximise the quality and experience of life for women with pelvic pain. The service consists of an adult and adolescent arm (patients from menarche to 25 years) giving clinicians the exciting and unique experience to work with patients at differing life points.
The role of Band 7 Specialist Physiotherapist is a critical part of the chronic pelvic pain service. You will work closely alongside the professions listed above, providing your expert knowledge to perform assessments and provide treatment to those required. You will be involved in delivering treatment in both one-to-one and group settings as well as providing joint courses and appointments together with psychology and attending MDT clinics.
Alongside the clinical work, you will also be involved in supervising and training other team members and will have the opportunity to undertake quality improvement projects.
Main duties of the job
To be a critical part of the multidisciplinary team in Chronic Pelvic Pain working in a collaborative fashion with the lead consultants and other members of the team.
1. To perform advanced assessment of patients including those with highly complex presentations to form a diagnosis and treatment plan, carried out as an autonomous practitioner.
2. To be responsible for supervising, teaching and appraising qualified physiotherapists and students within the pelvic pain service.
3. To be responsible for supporting leadership of the team as required.
4. To lead and support others in undertaking quality improvement projects to enhance the quality and efficiency of the service.
5. To be responsible for implementing service changes and monitoring these through clear standards of practice and good use of data and performance informatics.

1. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own professional activities.

3. To deploy advanced clinical reasoning skills, knowledge of evidence-based practice and specialist treatment skills to determine appropriate and person-centred clinical management plans.
4. To be highly competent in assessing a wide range of gynaecological, urological, colorectal and musculoskeletal conditions based on advanced theoretical knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology, often in situations where conflicting evidence is present.

Management

4. To be responsible for competent use, and maintenance reporting of all electrotherapy equipment, gym equipment and patient appliances and as team leader.
5. To ensure that all equipment defects, accidents and complaints are reported to the Band 8a or other manager, immediately and that appropriate action is taken as appropriate.
6. To comply with all Trust policies and procedures and Health and Safety at Work Act, including adherence to Universal Precautions and Infection Control measures, and ensure that the staff within the team are aware of their responsibilities.
7. To report all complaints and accidents to the immediate senior member of staff as soon as possible and document accordingly.
8. To attend mandatory fire, manual handling and resuscitation training on an annual basis and be familiar with local procedures within speciality areas of work, and ensure that staff within the team are aware of their responsibilities.
9. To be responsible for the daily and operational management, supervision and coordination of designated pelvic pain physiotherapy team including staff appraisal, performance management, and acts as a panel member in staff recruitment.
10. To participate in the Trust Appraisal Scheme, both as appraisee and as appraiser.
11. To attend and be an active participant in departmental staff and peer group meetings.
12. To ensure that as an individual practitioner, the post holder advises the Head of Therapies of any changes to the service to ensure quality and effectiveness of care for their patients.
13. To maintain an accurate and evaluative record keeping system for own clinical caseload and to be responsible for ensuring that qualified and student physiotherapists are maintaining the department standards within the clinical area.

5. To clearly convey complex knowledge of techniques, biomechanics, anatomy and physiology to patients and staff.
6. To supervise and lead on the professional development of physiotherapists on rotation through the clinical area.
7. To be responsible where required, for the training of physiotherapy staff, assistants and students on placement within the clinical area.
8. To supervise undergraduate physiotherapy students as required, and to liaise with academic institutions regarding student performance and placement within the team.
