We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Behaviour Support Staff – SEMH Specialist to join a school in Romford. This role is perfect for someone passionate about making a positive impact on students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will be supporting students to engage in learning, develop their emotional regulation, and achieve their full potential in a nurturing and structured environment.
The successful candidate will have prior experience in a similar role within a school or educational setting. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide targeted interventions, helping students overcome behavioural challenges.
This is a full-time position offering competitive rates of pay, with the opportunity to transition from temporary to permanent for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide targeted support to students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
* Assist in the development and implementation of behaviour management strategies.
* Work closely with teachers and other support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
* Offer one-to-one and group interventions to support students in regulating their behaviour and emotions.
* Monitor and track student progress, ensuring regular communication with staff and parents.
* Promote a safe and structured environment conducive to learning.
* Support students in building positive relationships with peers and staff.
* Liaise with external professionals, including counsellors and educational psychologists, when necessary.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Previous experience working with students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs in a school or educational setting.
* A strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and their practical application.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
* Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting students with complex needs.
* Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
* Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant certificate or training in SEMH support, are preferred.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
