About the team:
The Specialist Assessment Team (SAT) is a specialist team within Southampton City Council's Family Safeguarding Service undertaking complex assessments and interventions with families. Our work also incorporates the Family Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC). We are a multi-disciplinary team who try to pro-actively support families to make positive lifestyle changes in order to safely stay together where possible.
The team’s dual function provides a unique social work opportunity to work in one of only 13 specialist FDAC teams nationally and also in a role where you have regular opportunity to undertake specialist and complex assessments to support children and families.

We are looking for a Senior Social Worker who is able to drive forward and model outstanding practice within the team and wider service. A social worker who is reflective and assured in their own practice and assessment skills. You will have a thorough understanding of safeguarding risks and the diverse challenges that families face. You will be assertive and comfortable in delivering appropriate interventions to mitigate risk and implement change.
About you:
You will be confident and experienced in producing high quality, holistic and evidence based assessments with ideally specific skills in working with parents with learning difficulties, mental health needs and families impacted by Domestic Abuse and substance use.
You will have a belief that everyone has strengths and the capacity to change and will have the skills to engage with complex individual and family systems in order to support and motivate them through the cycle of change.
If this is you then you may be suited to the unique and creative role of Social Worker within Southampton City Council’s Specialist Assessment Team (SAT).
It is essential for you to be a qualified Social Worker and registered with the HCPC. Post qualifying experience is essential and experience of working with families dealing with substance misuse, mental health learning needs and domestic abuse issues are essential. Specific recognised assessment skills in these areas, such as ParentAssess and systemic practice, are desirable.
