Overall purpose
The Programme Leader role is a key postholder in our academic management structure. The role involves ensuring that all students have an excellent experience on the programme. You will work closely with your academic team to ensure that all lecturers and module leaders understand the programme and their modules and are able to deliver high quality teaching, learning and assessment across the programme to all students.
You will work closely with academic support teams and other stakeholders to ensure that the programme, content, teaching, assessment is well planned and organized. You will work with Partner providers to ensure we meet our programme delivery obligations and comply with their quality and standards requirements.
You will be the internal and external figure head for the programme and you will lead on dealing with student conduct and other quality and regulatory matters associated with the programme and students.
Specific duties and responsibilities.
The key responsibilities of a programme leader are to:
* Manage the day-to-day delivery of the programme.
* Ensure a high-quality academic student experience.
* Monitor, review and enhance the teaching learning and assessment of the programme
* Manage and ensure all assessments and marking are delivered appropriately and to the required standard.
* Work with both internal and external stakeholders to support the management of the programme.
The post holder will:
* Ensure that each new Lecturer/Associate Lecturers receive a full academic induction to your programme in line with college policies and procedures.
* Provide communication, guidance, and support to all staff teaching and assessing your programme.
* Liaise with other Programme Leaders and Senior Lecturers and provide supporting cover as necessary.
* Identify staffing needs and work with relevant colleagues to allocate staff to timetables to ensure all modules are appropriately resourced across the programme.
* Engage in recruitment/marketing activities in relation to the programme.
Teaching, Learning and Assessment
The post holder will:
* Ensure that all aspects of the programme comply with the Academic Regulations for Taught Programmes.
* Work with key stakeholders to ensure that all assessments on your programme are well planned; that marking and feedback is delivered in a timely fashion adhering to our agreed marking deadlines.
* Ensure that the relevant Programme Handbook, programme and module specifications are current and maintained and staff briefed appropriately.
* Liaise with administrative staff over the scheduling of meetings of the board of study/programme team, staff-student committee, and the module/programme board of examiners.
* Ensure the related policies and procedures of the College and/or partner University are implemented in the delivery of the programme.
Student support
The post holder will:
* Co-ordinate and participate in the student induction process, liaising where appropriate with relevant colleagues and support services.
* Respond to student queries relevant to the programme where these have not been satisfactorily resolved elsewhere and ensure the general orientation of students through the programmes.
* Monitor student participation, engagement, continuation and progression working with relevant stakeholders as appropriate.
Quality Assurance
The post holder will:
* Produce the Annual Programme Monitoring and Enhancement report in conjunction with the programme team.
* Monitor student progress, achievement and retention.
* Monitor suitability and availability of learning resources including library resources.
Scholarship
The post holder will
* Engage in scholarship as required to support teaching activities and continually update knowledge.
* Extend, transform and apply knowledge applied from scholarship to teaching and appropriate external activities including knowledge generation, knowledge exchange and knowledge transfer activities.

EXPERIENCE & PERSONAL QUALITIES
Essential:
* Experience in academic programmes’ management.
* Experience of teaching, curriculum development and quality management and enhancement in an HE environment.
* Evidence of excellent teaching and learning practice.
* A commitment to EDI
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Able to communicate complex and conceptual ideas to a range of stakeholders.
* Able to demonstrate independent and self-managing working styles.
* Excellent organizational skills.
* Ability to work in a complex matrix organization with multiple competing priorities.
* Expected to engage in activities associated with promotion, marketing and public outreach of the subject area
Desirable:
* Evidence of high-quality publications or other outputs in research or practice.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Essential:
* Sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop teaching programmes and the provision of learning support. Alternatively, the ability to demonstrate equivalent core knowledge and expertise gained from sector professional practice will be considered in some circumstances
* Excellent IT skills in technologies and software programmes/packages that are relevant to the subject area including various VLE Platforms
* Excellent general IT skills including MS Office and its applications.
Desirable:
* Project management experience or qualifications
EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
* Master’s degree in relevant subject discipline
* Fellowship of the Advanced Higher Education (HEA) or willingness to work towards (within 12 months)
* Sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop teaching programmes and the provision of learning support.
* Appropriate digital skills in learning, teaching and assessment
Desirable:
* PhD (or submitted and awaiting examination) or equivalence accepted in a relevant subject area, for example by publication or through appropriate professional achievement or willingness to work towards within an agreed timeframe
* Membership of relevant Professional Statutory Regulatory Body (PSRB)
