GROUNDS MAINTENANCE OPERATIVE / GARDENER
Settle Town Council is seeking a self-motivated person and skilled Grounds Maintenance Operative / Gardener to join our team. You will play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the beauty and functionality of public spaces across Settle.
Key Responsibilities
1. Grounds Maintenance: Regular upkeep and maintenance of play areas and open spaces including hedge trimming, weed control, pruning, and landscaping. Strimming and some small areas of grass cutting required. Watering planters & baskets on Council owned land. Weekly inspections of play area equipment.
2. General Maintenance: Litter picking, minor repairs to outdoor furniture and equipment including signs and walls. Maintenance at allotment sites, community cemetery, and garden of rest. Graffiti removal, painting, and minor surface repairs. Small scale improvements and maintenance of Council owned areas.
3. Equipment Care: Safely operate and maintain gardening tools and machinery.
4. Seasonal Work: Winter gritting, leaf clearance, clearing of pathways. Holiday relief cover for litter collection, sign posting, and coning of the marketplace. Cover for market staff if appropriate. Assist with Council managed events e.g., Christmas lights switch on / remembrance Sunday.
Essential Requirements:
* Proven experience in DIY, grounds maintenance, gardening, landscaping, or a similar role.
* Ability to operate a variety of gardening machinery (e.g., mowers, strimmers).
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* Strong work ethic with attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Physically fit and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
* Own a vehicle suitable for carrying lawn mower/tools - business commercial insurance will be required.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of health & safety procedures and safe working practices.
* Experience with the upkeep of recreational grounds/play areas.
* Ability to use a computer with a basic understanding of Microsoft products, to send and receive emails.
