About the role
We are currently recruiting an Electronics Wire Technician to join QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) within the Electronics area of our Production Team. QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC, specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems, including the world-leading Banshee target.
QTS targets are used to enable realistic weapons test and evaluation and operator training in over 40 countries worldwide, with QTS providing a complete managed service in over 15 of these countries.
What will I be doing?
Reporting to the Electronics Production Supervisor, you will be responsible for carrying out production activities including: wiring of harnesses, looms, cable assemblies, population of PCB’s and manufacture of various electro-mechanical assemblies.
Duties will include:
* Populate Printed Circuit Boards (PCB’s), using through-hole and surface mounted component soldering
* Wiring of basic and complex harness, loom and cable assemblies
* To assemble electro-mechanical assemblies.
* Assemble prototype electronic, mechanical and wiring assemblies.
* The use of basic hand tools including cutters, pliers and crimp tools
* Participate in departmental daily layered accountability (DLA) meetings, to collate meaningful improvement metric data, and take lead in driving for improvements
* To carry out additional tasks as directed by Electronic Production Supervisor, Chargehand or Production Manager
* The use of Automated Test Equipment (ATE).
* Lead and participate in continuous improvement activates
What do I need?
A proven team player, you will have previous work experience in a manufacturing environment and be able to demonstrate knowledge of production process to a high standard.
You’ll also have:
* ESD awareness
* basic product knowledge
* knowledge / a certificate in IPC-610, IPC-620
* experience of continuous improvement tools e.g. Kaizen, 6S, Six Sigma and SOP’s
* the ability to work independently and as a part of a team
* good practical skills
* good computer skills
* the ability to problem solve
* strong attention to detail
