Purpose of the Role
As a Maintenance Operative within the Environmental Services department, you will ensure exemplary standards of all works relating to those below along with customer services being provided. Team building and staff morale will be a priority and you will be expect to positively contribute to the performance of the business. This position requires a close working relationship with public, support staff, management and the Get Living Premises in Leatherhead to ensure the service delivery exceed expectations.
You will be a high energy employee, presentable and a natural communicator with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced changing environment. You will need to champion brand initiatives through clear communication, with working partners.
You will be proactive, with the ability to manage your own daily tasks with a “hands on” approach. You will have the ability to act decisively with an uncompromising eye for detail; to ensure the retail park and surroundings are immaculately presented, safe and secure throughout your working times.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure compliance with all internal procedures, site processes and external bodies including enforcement agencies and auditory bodies
* Working closely with your line manager to ensure correct manning levels are maintained at all times
* Motivate yourself to achieve the highest possible standards of service delivery
* Maintain standards of performance, discipline and welfare in accordance with company policies
* To support your line manager in your continued development and training
* Close monitoring of the all equipment, consumables and materials including stock control
* To ensure all equipment/machinery is in good working order. To report any machinery faults to line manage to ensure repairs are effected quickly
* Daily monitoring of areas that fall into repairs throughout internal and external areas ensuring you proactively respond to all tasks as required.
* To ensure all work is carried out in a safe manner and in accordance with the relevant H&S regulations
* Undertake any other reasonable duties as required to meet the needs of the business
* Ensure a timely response to all issues and events
* To ensure that records are held and updated as required
* To take a proactive approach to continuous improvement and innovation in all aspects of the job
* To ensure appropriate equipment is available for the handyman team to carry out their role
* Be aware of site specific duties.

* Work with the manager ensuring all new starters and cover operatives are inducted and trained in accordance to the contractual and statutory requirements
* Assist with toolbox talks and complete as per company policy
* To assist with the identification of training needs and ensure accurate site records are maintained at all times

Candidates will be required to demonstrate the following:

* Experience in the provision of handyman services in a busy environment visited by members of the public.

* Basic Knowledge of H&S legislation.

* Experience of Handyman within the retail environment
* Working knowledge of handyman equipment/machines

* Ability to communicate across all levels with a sound understanding of diversity in the work place
Tasks (this list is not exhaustive however should you be asked to undertake ANY task outside the below please contact SMR Area Manager to confirm it can be undertaken, competences and that the appropriate H&S, SOPS, risk assessments and training are in place)
* Completing minor plumbing repairs such as fixing dripping taps or running toilet cisterns
* Moving furniture within the parameters of manual handling and the manual handling hierarchy.
* Installing battery smoke and carbon monoxide alarms (no electrical wiring systems)
* Fitting shelves, hanging pictures repairing door locks, assembly of furniture.
* Perform basic tasks including painting and filling crevices
* Report the need for major maintenance repairs. Outside of the skills, competence, experience or knowledge of the individual.
* Problem-solving skills
* Practical skills for repairing and maintaining equipment
* To be thorough and pay attention to detail
* Customer service skills
* The ability to work well with others
* Change lighting bulbs (if ladders required this will need to be assessed and an set or risk assessments prepared.)
* Exchange electrical plugs and amps.
* Paint, repair areas and fill gaps or crevices, damaged walls and doors to 2m (not a full area redecoration).
Woking Hours - 40 hours per week (In the first instance the role will be 6 days per week and then revert to over 7 when the premises have a 2nd maintenance operative, therefore any applicant must understand this initial requirement and the future shift pattern)
Salary - £19 per hour
