Glen Clova Scientific Ltd (GCS) is developing a new generation of Active Biologics to treat inflammatory conditions. LOCATION
Dundee is an up-and-coming Biotech centre in a fantastic setting: Multiple beaches are within easy reach; housing is highly affordable even in catchments of nationally top-performing secondary schools; there is a multitude of child-care providers. Dundee is a large university centre with a multi-cultural scene and vibrant nightlife, an award-winning theatre playhouse, and a variety of museums. Transport and connections are excellent: the stunning Scottish Highlands can be reached in 45 minutes; the cultural buzz and global airport connectivity of Edinburgh is 1h by train in addition to direct rail links to Glasgow (90 minutes) and Aberdeen (60 minutes).
JOB DESCRIPTION
You will be one of the lead senior scientists who oversees processes relating to VLP design, expression, and purification. Having cross-functional experience is essential, as is having a team-player mentality. The precise type of activity you will be assigned will change according to current demands, but will include:
1. The optimisation of culturing conditions for VLP expression of test clones and strains in a range of expression systems (bacteria, insect, mammalian)
2. The creation of VLP purification methodologies using IMAC, IEC, SEC, IEX, HIC chromatography
3. The performance of buffer optimisation methods using TFF
4. The assessment of formulation and stability of samples produced in-house
5. The supervision and training of other members of the team
6. Working independently, reading literature, and communicating emerging technology developments
7. Ensuring accurate record keeping, and compiling detailed ELN entries for all experiments
8. Drafting reports, preparing presentations, and communicating work to other members of the group
9. Working under the pressure of milestone–driven timelines
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
1. Ph.D plus 5 years industry experience in protein production, or equivalent experience
KEY REQUIREMENTS
1. Previous experience in the optimisation of bacteria, insect, and mammalian cultures for protein production efforts (essential)
2. Previous experience in AKTA chromatography method development (essential)
3. An understanding of VLP expression and purification methods (desirable)
4. Understanding of process development methods for vaccine production (desirable)
5. Previous management of junior team members in a protein production environment (desirable)
6. Previous experience in an industry setting (desirable)
