Overview
A private equity-backed company in South Yorkshire, specialising in end-to-end design and prototyping solutions, is seeking a Head of Sales. The business has grown at around 20% per year since receiving investment in 2021 and has doubled its sales in that period. Due to the upcoming departure of the current CEO, the founder and ex-CEO will be stepping in temporarily to allow time for a permanent successor to be found. The new Head of Sales will be in a great position to be considered for the role, with a strong preference for a new CEO to be sourced internally. The Sales Team Lead will report directly into the CEO.
The Business
* Provides design, rapid prototyping/additive manufacturing, and low-volume production for sectors such as Marine, Medical, Automotive, Media & Entertainment, and Oil & Gas.
* Can triple volumes with current capacity; an Operations Manager oversees day-to-day delivery.
* About 20 employees; no immediate need for further investment.
* Backed by private equity, with a strong track record of steady growth.
The Role: Head of Sales
* You will lead the entire sales function, including setting incentives, working closely with the board on strategy, and structuring the sales team.
* As the interim CEO will remain in place only until a permanent appointment is made, the business expects its Head of Sales to be a prime candidate for the long-term CEO position.
* Receive hands-on coaching from the founder and ex-CEO, gaining insight into wider business strategy and leadership.
Ideal Candidate Profile
* Currently operating at Sales Manager (or similar level with at least a team of 4 direct sales reports) looking to step up to Head of Sales, or an existing Sales Team-leader.
* Demonstrable experience motivating and developing a successful sales team in a technical or engineering-focused environment.
* Confident contributing to board-level strategic discussions and growth targets.
* Familiar selling pre-production or high-value solutions to Engineering Directors and technical stakeholders.
* Located in or near South Yorkshire, with no relocation required.
* Motivated to expand skill sets and potentially transition into the CEO role over time.
Compensation
* Base Salary: £55k
* On-Track Bonus: £25k (performance-based)
* Total OTE: £80k
* Potential for additional long-term incentives in line with private equity objectives, subject to performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop and implement sales strategies in collaboration with the board.
2. Lead, motivate, and structure the sales team, setting and monitoring performance targets.
3. Identify and expand into new markets, leveraging the company’s prototyping and manufacturing capabilities.
4. Maintain close alignment with operations to ensure smooth delivery of projects and customer satisfaction.
5. Work alongside the founder and ex-CEO for deeper commercial and leadership coaching, positioning yourself as a future CEO candidate.
