This apprenticeship is the level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician standard programme with Volvo Truck & Bus in Bury St Edmunds IP29 4UQ. As an apprentice, you will learn how to maintain and repair large commercial vehicles to the manufacturers and DSVA standard.
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Apprenticeships 2025 are now open! Start dates are from May to August 2025.
As an Apprentice HGV Technician, you will:
1. Assist with repairs that are carried out in accordance with Volvo Standard Times using Volvo Special Tools where appropriate.
2. Assist in the fault diagnosis process.
3. Learn and comply with warranty procedures during repairs and with warranty material on completion of a repair.
4. Assist and work with the parts team to ensure the correct replacement parts are fitted to the vehicles.
5. Learn how to and use Volvo special tools safely and efficiently.
6. Assist with cleaning the workshop.
7. Ensure that the company time recording procedures are complied with and that job cards are completed accurately.
8. Ensure all vehicle defects are reported to workshop Supervisor.
9. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when must be worn.
10. Attend college courses regularly and achieve the standards required by the course.
11. Attend any technical or development training that is made available.
On starting your Apprenticeship, you will be provided with full equipment which includes all the tools to help you become a technician. You will work with qualified and experienced Technicians learning how to repair, service, MOT, and maintain modern trucks, buses, and coaches including hybrid technology.
Training to be provided
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Heavy vehicle service and maintenance technician (level 3) Equal to A level.
Your training plan
Training is delivered in the workplace and on block release to Remit’s Automotive Academy in Derby. There are a total of 16 x 1 week blocks over the 32 month programme. The costs of hotel accommodation, food, and travel are met by the employer and there will be no cost to you.
You will receive 1-2-1 support from your Development Coach to help you achieve:
* IMI Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Level 3
* Functional Skills Level 2 in English & Math (if required)

Essential qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
* Maths (grade 4 / C)
* English (grade 4 / C)
