Job Title: Lighting Design Manager
Job Summary/Overview:
Responsible for the efforts, results, and success of the organisation's lighting design department. Provides technical advice and support to help the business make key decisions.
To contribute to the attainment of the company's business objectives by:
1. Providing strategic, technical, and lighting design guidance to ensure that the company's design and commercial commitments are met.
2. Developing all necessary policies and procedures to ensure sound lighting design decisions are made.
3. Supporting the sales and customer service teams to deliver exceptional customer service and exceed sales & profit budgets in line with the sales strategy and business plan.
4. Acting as a champion and ambassador of the company, its values, mission and purpose to our customers.
Main Responsibilities & Duties:
1. Achieve company Sales & Profit budget.
2. Provide lighting design support to both internal and external customers.
3. Identify innovative solutions for the development of new product solutions.
4. Increase commercial opportunities through enhanced technical competence.
5. Provide lighting calculations and designs on behalf of internal and external customers.
6. Support lighting payback calculations (ROI) on a project-by-project basis in order to meet customer expectations.
7. Support the growth of the business and sales team by working closely with customers:
1. Undertaking and performing site surveys and customer meetings.
2. Liaising with customers directly on their lighting design schemes.
3. Providing technical support to both internal and external customers.
4. Providing product datasheets and related information for all products.
5. Managing electronic design files (BIM, CAD, DIALux etc).
6. Managing all product data required for information and quotation purposes.
7. Being knowledgeable and able to apply relevant industry and segment guidelines, standards and regulatory requirements.
8. Maintaining accurate records (CRM).
9. Being aware of market trends and competitors.
10. Assisting in development of systems and procedures to make your role more successful.
11. Maintaining a positive attitude that promotes a culture of growth through sales across the business.
12. Communicating effectively, providing knowledgeable service to all internal and external customers.
Additional Responsibilities & Duties:
1. Improve the presentation of schemes to customers.
2. Assistance with design reviews for new products as required.
3. Assisting with maintenance of company website.
4. Increase efficiency and service levels via ongoing maintenance and development of Microsoft Dynamics and other software packages.
5. Maintain and protect company assets including phone, computer and other equipment issued to the employee.
6. Managing & reviewing responsibilities with Freelance Lighting Designers.
Specific Tasks:
1. Daily:
1. Updating CRM software with all customer interactions.
2. Managing workload to ensure proactive completion of tasks with customer always coming first.
3. Answering customer lighting queries.
2. Weekly:
1. Production of product documents including datasheets and LDT files.
2. Lighting design schemes for customers.
3. Assisting CST & BDM's with customer take offs.
3. Monthly:
1. Proactive monthly technical report of activity, performance, data and updates.
4. Quarterly:
1. Update company employees on relevant changes to industry standards and regulations.
5. Annually:
1. Review technical software requirements and renew appropriate licenses.
2. Review and analyse lighting and product design requirements for the year.
Qualifications & Skills:
1. Minimum of HND/Degree in Engineering or Science based subject or equivalent technical competence.
2. Minimum of 5 years’ relevant lighting industry experience with team management and technical and commercial submissions.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of current British and European Standards relating to lighting.
4. High level of technical knowledge relating to lighting products and associated components.
5. A high level of IT literacy.
6. An excellent working knowledge of CAD, light planning software (Dialux or Relux) and BIM.
7. Able to engage effectively with staff at all levels with different levels of technical knowledge.
