About the role
* This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered
* We know that having a work-life balance is important, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role
* The base location for this role is in Scotland due to the nature of the workload. Our head office is based in Newcastle Upon Tyne so this will be a fully remote/hybrid role
What you’ll do
* Managing all aspects of leasehold transactions, including acquisitions, lease renewals, and general estate management. This will involve advising on agreements for lease, leases, licences to alter, collateral warranties, agreements to surrender, surrenders, break notices, dilapidation settlements, and other associated documents
* Conducting freehold property disposals, including drafting and negotiating contracts, transfers, CPSE replies, and responding to title enquiries.
* Managing lease renewals under the relevant legislation (equivalent to the 1954 Act in Scotland), including serving and responding to appropriate notices and handling disputes
* Assisting with the preparation and submission of Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT) returns and dealing with Registers of Scotland applications.
* Delivering ad-hoc legal and business support as needed, adapting to the evolving demands of the role
* Instructing and overseeing external advisors to ensure efficient and effective service delivery
* The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Scottish property law and a proactive approach to solving complex legal issues in a commercial environment
About you
* A Scottish qualified solicitor with at least 3 years’ PQE specialising in commercial property matters
* Property litigation, non-contentious construction or general commercial experience an advantage but not essential
* Retail experience an advantage but not essential
* Strong technical ability
* Confident and commercially minded
* Customer focused
* Good interpersonal skills with an ability to develop strong internal and external relationships
* Great communication skills
* Willingness to manage own personal and professional development with support from the business
