Are you an experienced retail manager looking for an exciting challenge in a fast paced environment? Rhodium has multiple Assistant Store Manager vacancies for a one of the biggest FMCG retailers in Europe. Other areas for available vacancies are Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Essex and Cambridgeshire.
As an Assistant Store Manager, your role is to support the Store Manager in delivering an exceptional shopping experience by exceeding customer expectations and providing outstanding service. You will also help foster a positive and efficient working environment, ensuring high store standards, cost control, operational efficiency, inventory accuracy, procedural compliance, and strong due diligence.
A key part of your role is to develop and motivate employees in line with my clients Management System (AMS), encouraging excellent performance and promoting staff retention.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
• Authorise employee duties, working hours, time off, breaks, and overtime as required.
• Handle customer complaints within designated limits and escalate major issues to the Area Manager.
• Approve voids, refunds, and reduced pricing for special product clearance.
• Manage employee schedules, including holiday planning.
• Oversee stock ordering, product storage, and inventory control.
• Ensure all stock meets Health & Safety standards, removing unsuitable products as necessary.
• Notify the Area Manager of essential repairs and, if safety is compromised, take action to temporarily close the store.
• Report all authority visits and escalate urgent matters to the regional office.
Customer Service & Store Standards
• Lead by example in delivering excellent customer service by engaging with customers warmly and professionally.
• Ensure staff are knowledgeable about products and store layout.
• Handle customer complaints by listening, empathising, and providing appropriate resolutions
• Maintain store cleanliness and organization, ensuring aisles are clear and free from obstructions.
• Maximise product availability by ensuring timely restocking and replenishment.
• Conduct quality checks on products and ensure proper stock rotation.
Team Development & Management
• Train, mentor, and develop employees, including Store Management trainees.
• Provide feedback and performance evaluations to staff.
• Assist the Area Manager with employee references and feedback.
• Monitor and encourage adherence to company policies and procedures.
• Ensure accurate recording of employee hours and payroll management.
Cash Handling & Security
• Oversee till operations and monitor transaction accuracy.
• Supervise till queues to ensure efficient customer service.
• Conduct till spot checks and review cashier efficiency.
• Oversee cashing up, safe deposits, and handover to security services.
• Carry out honesty tests with employees to maintain store integrity.
• Implement all security measures and respond to store alarm callouts as a registered key holder.
• Contact law enforcement in cases of theft or security concerns.
Compliance & Health & Safety
• Enforce Health & Safety and Due Diligence policies.
• Complete accident reports and escalate incidents to the Area Manager.
• Ensure all technical and electrical equipment undergoes necessary service checks.
• Conduct formal sample testing as required by Environmental Health Officers.
• Work in accordance with the Code of Conduct and Corporate Responsibility policies.
