As our Strategic Vendor Manager you’ll play a pivotal role in defining, developing and sustaining long lasting partnerships with Bupa’s IT vendors. Utilising your commercial experience with vendors and complex supplier strategies you’ll be shaping Bupa’s procurement activities. This is a brand new role in a new team which provides the opportunity to shape the agenda and make it your own.
Duties to include:
1. You will be the Vendor Manager for a specified category (e.g. IT Products, Platforms, People). This may change/vary as needed (based on workload and team requirements).
2. You will be responsible for developing and sustaining long-standing relationships with Bupa Technology vendors.
3. You will be responsible, alongside the Tech Leadership team and Procurement, for selecting suitable vendors and partners for “right tasking”.
4. You will develop Supplier Strategies for those suppliers who are classified as ‘Strategic’ and sit within your category. Supplier Strategies will feed into Category Strategies. You will be required to obtain sign off and ongoing approval of the strategy from the Accountable Executive.
5. You will be responsible for engaging with suitable vendors and partners to assess their products and/or services, inquire about their full capabilities, negotiate (alongside Procurement colleagues) and communicate any product or service-related concerns.
6. Implementing vendor selection programs to ensure that the best vendor is selected for any / every task.
7. Attending weekly, monthly and quarterly reviews with the vendors and internal stakeholders as required and in accordance with Bupa governance.
8. Working with the procurement, SRM and legal functions to ensure vendors and partners meet and exceed contractual requirements.
9. You will develop a forward view of renewals and a pipeline of vendor engagements (including new RFPs / projects). You will work closely with Procurement and the Service owners and IT Leadership team to develop a strategic approach/treatment strategy for the category of spend and the key suppliers (Critical and/or strategic).
10. Challenge renewals by questioning whether the software/solution/product is still the best fit to support the service and whether there is an alternative in existence already (optimisation opportunities).
11. Target economies of scale by using solutions across multiple services or BUs.
12. You will assist in developing RFPs with Procurement and the relevant business areas, using your industry knowledge and relevant market research.
13. You will ensure early renegotiation of existing contracts takes place resulting in all renewals being completed in a timely manner and within contractual obligations.
14. You will work with Strategy & Architecture as well as Product/Service owners to ensure that contracts and supplier engagements align to the overall Technology strategy.
15. With Procurement, you will ensure appropriate level of governance is in place and formalised for key suppliers and internal stakeholders.
16. You will help the Head of Technology Vendor Management evaluate current vendor management programs and identify ways to improve them.
17. Help embed a RACI with Procurement, Risk, Vendor Management and IT service owners so that accountabilities are clearly defined and understood.
18. Ensure that T&Cs and contracts are up-to-date, authorised, approved and signed by all relevant parties, and stored on the central Procurement repository (e.g. Bravo); ensure that all SOWs are in place and signed, purchase orders raised, and invoices paid, working with internal Bupa teams to address issues.
19. Identifying cost saving / avoidance opportunities.
20. Build and manage strong relationships with business engagement leaders, wider project sponsors, and with 3rd party suppliers, targeted at providing BG with maximum benefit from any engagement.
21. Provide strong commercial, relationship and delivery leadership to partners and suppliers where appropriate.
Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:
1. Experience of managing of third-party suppliers (preferably IT supplier partners).
2. Great interpersonal and organisation skills.
3. Strong contract management experience with excellent negotiation skills.
4. Professional certification such as IACCM/WCC or CIPS is desirable.
5. Familiar with regulatory requirements.
6. Ability to manage multiple projects and activities simultaneously.
7. Excellent problem-solving skills, judgement, high EQ, and interpersonal skills.
8. Cross Functional business experience.
9. Able to hold to account senior leaders who have responsibility for day-to-day decisions and implementation of initiatives.
10. Very strong collaboration, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
11. Experience of using data and insights to drive decision making.
12. Acts ethically and honestly in all dealing with colleagues, patients and consultants building compliance, authenticity, and trust.
13. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
14. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
