Job summary We are looking for a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist to join our established team. This post will be based at Morriston Hospital and will support the planned expansion of the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) and Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CITU). The PACU and CITU share a footprint and provide outstanding care of the post operative general and cardiac patients. This role is expected to provide daytime input into both cohorts of patients and will support the ongoing development of the PACU. Morriston Hospital has a very active and successful Research Department embedded in the site. The full-time staff are invaluable in assisting and running research projects. This role will also aim to link the Anaesthetic Department with the research unit to improve the output of high-quality research within the anaesthetic and surgical fields. It would be hoped that the candidate could provide leadership and growth within this area. Main duties of the job There will also be the opportunity for the successful candidate to undertake a variety of other subspecialty elective work through a number of flexible sessions. An on-call commitment will be undertaken through mutual agreement with the department. Where agreed, it will be to the hybrid General rota at Morriston Hospital. This will include burns admissions out of hours and urgent burns surgery in-hours on the weekend. The on-call consultant rota is split into 2 tiers. The 1st on-call being the initial responder and the 2nd on-call who will provide support within the health board, where deemed necessary by the 1st on-call and clinical requirement. The frequency of weekday on-calls will be 1:16. Weekend cover will be 1 in 8, split between resident and non-resident work. The first on-call is expected to be within 30 minutes of attendance at Morriston hospital and the second-on, within an hour.
