Would you like to make a difference to the lives of People Living with Dementia in Dumfriesshire?
We are looking for unique people to join our team of Community Activity Organisers, within our community groups and dementia specific day service in Dumfries. Our groups and day services are personalised to the preferences and needs of individuals, providing therapeutic activities with a focus on maintaining skills and independence.
Our Community Activity Organisers are so important in providing front line support. Successful applicants will have a positive approach to dementia and a passion to make a difference. You will have good communication skills, a caring attitude and most of all enthusiasm for the role. Supporting individuals to keep connected to their local communities, engage in their interests and hobbies and access peer support. Developing ideas and leading the way towards exciting and new activities to promote brain health.
The use of a car is preferred (mileage and expenses are paid).
A willingness to learn and participate in training (including SVQ’s) and registration with the SSSC is essential. Relevant qualifications and/or experience of working with people with dementia would be an advantage.

Post Diagnostic Support Link Workers
Are you a creative and motivated individual with the passion and drive to support people with a recent diagnosis of dementia to live well in their community?
If so, you can be part of a National Team of Post Diagnostic Support Link Workers (PDS Link Workers) providing high quality, person centred support to people living with dementia and their families for a minimum of a year following diagnosis in line with the Scottish Government’s minimum guarantee.
The aim of the PDS National Service is to enable people to live well with dementia and is centred around Alzheimer Scotland's 5 pillar model so that people move on to a period of supported self-management.
The model includes understanding the illness and coming to terms with the diagnosis, peer support, connecting and maintaining links with their community along with planning for future care and decision making to develop an outcome focused plan to support their future hopes, desires and aspirations.
Supporting our Dumfries and Galloway locality, the post will be based within the Community Mental Health Team. Alzheimer Scotland’s PDS Link Workers are required to be effective team workers and have the skills to build and maintain relationships with colleagues both within Alzheimer Scotland, the NHS and other stakeholders.
Skills in using digital platforms are essential as we use a blended approach to support people that involve some virtual meetings and online groups.
Applicants must hold a recognised relevant professional qualification to a minimum of SVQ level 4, have a good understanding of dementia and how it affects people and their families along with excellent communication skills, a warm flexible approach, combined with skills in empathy and relationship building.
In addition, you should have skills and knowledge at the Enhanced Level of the Promoting Excellence Framework or be able to evidence you are working towards its completion.
This post requires a full driving license and access to a car.

Project Officer
The Mental Health Foundation is recruiting for a Project Officer to support our exciting Art of Family Life project.
This exciting Project Officer role will coordinate the delivery of the ‘Art of Family Life’ project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. This role will take an innovative approach to bringing together heritage learning to positively impact on the wellbeing of people from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds living in Scotland. Key tasks of the role will include recruiting volunteers and sessional workers to support an oral history collection programme. This will be followed by a creative process to explore how the heritage of family life among families from refugee backgrounds can be curated and shared publicly.
What does the role involve?
* Promoting the programme to a wide range of audiences including with refugee led community organisations
* Coordinating with project partners and supporters including Oral History Centre at the University of Strathclyde, Common Ground at the Centre for Contemporary Arts and Glasgow Life and organising project events
* Recruiting and supporting sessional workers volunteers to promote and engage project activities
* Collect project impact data and support reporting to funder(s) on progress and finances

Dementia Advisors provide advice, information, practical support, and develop social and therapeutic activities that meet the outcomes of local people affected by dementia.
You will support people living with dementia, their families, and carers to find their way through the health and social care system and have more meaningful conversations with decision makers in the local community, by encouraging people with dementia, and carers to be heard.
You will work with a range of external partners and colleagues to promote and develop a broader understanding of and positive attitudes to dementia.
To be successful in the role you will be required to adopt and demonstrate a positive leadership approach for the small but effective team that will influence a positive culture of engagement in the local communities. This will also include tasks related to maintaining the resource centre in Lerwick.
This is a very flexible role aimed at meeting the needs of people with dementia and their carers throughout Inverness and Nairn. The focus and location of the post holder’s activity will vary from time to time depending on the needs of the people we support, although he/she/they will have a fixed office base.
You will have a positive approach to dementia, have good communication and IT skills and possess a caring attitude. A willingness to learn and participate in training is essential. Relevant qualifications and/or experience of working with people with dementia would be an advantage.
