We are really pleased to offer this excellent opportunity to join our team in the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care as Research Assistant in Digital Health on the AI Nursing Hackathon funded by King’s Together Fund. This post will involve a number of key research tasks led by Dr O’Connor. This specific project is to plan, deliver, and evaluate a hackathon on artificial intelligence in nursing and support teams of nurses to apply for funding for AI research.
The role involves:
1. organising a hackathon event in London,
2. running the hackathon with the team,
3. evaluating the hackathon event with attendees,
4. facilitating grant writing workshops,
5. supporting funding applications, and
6. other ad-hoc duties as they arise.
The postholder will be expected to prepare documents as required and produce manuscripts and reports. The postholder will work with Dr O’Connor and the AI Nurses Network team to deliver the hackathon and take an active role on applications for future projects.
The role is based at the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care in the research division of Digital Health and Applied Technology Assessment. This division benefits from a multidisciplinary team comprising researchers, educators, health and care professionals, and patient and public involvement representatives.
Candidates should be highly motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. They should have excellent written and communication skills and be able to work and engage with multiple stakeholders, including patients, family carers, health and care practitioners, and Patient and Public Involvement members. The postholder will need to manage multiple deadlines and work independently to achieve these.

Key responsibilities:
* To book a suitable event space for the hackathon in central London.
* To arrange catering for the hackathon for all attendees.
* To organise the hackathon challenge, activities, application and judging process.
* To develop a suite of digital communications for the hackathon event and promote these via numerous dissemination channels.
* To advertise the hackathon and recruit nurses and AI researchers to attend.
* To review applications for the hackathon and select suitable attendees.
* To support attendee travel to the hackathon and facilitate reimbursement of expenses.
* To communicate and liaise with the AI Nurses Network team members, as well as Patient and Public Involvement members to organise, run and evaluate the hackathon.
* To schedule and support grant writing workshops for hackathon attendees.
* To gain ethical approval and distribute a survey to evaluate the hackathon.
* To proof and draft reports for the study team, funders, and other groups.
* To write up and disseminate research results, both academic and public audiences.
* To proof and draft conference papers and manuscripts for publication.
* To work collaboratively with the project team at King’s College London and with collaborating organisations.
* Ensure confidentiality, research governance and data management in accordance with GCP guidelines.
* To conduct appropriate risk assessments where necessary and to take responsibility for one’s own and others’ health and safety.

Qualifications:
A postgraduate qualification e.g., MSc or PhD.
Skills:
Essential criteria:
1. A degree in health or social sciences or similar awarded to a high level (e.g., first or 2.1).
2. Experience of qualitative or quantitative research methods and a good understanding of evaluation methodologies in health services research.
3. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to adapt communication to the situation.
4. Excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise and complete work within deadlines.
5. Strong organisational and planning skills with proven ability to coordinate and deliver projects.
6. Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
7. A commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity for staff and students.
8. Able and willing to travel.
Desirable criteria:
1. A postgraduate qualification e.g., MSc or PhD.
2. Research experience in digital health demonstrated by participation in delivery of research projects and authorship on academic publications.
3. Knowledge and experience in using research databases and data analysis software such as SPSS, N-Vivo.
4. Research experience in Patient and Public Involvement.
