We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic new part-time member of staff to join our friendly laboratory team at the Sussex Equine Hospital providing diagnostic services to our veterinary team and external clients.
Reporting To The Laboratory Manager, Duties Include:
1. Labelling and processing samples for the required tests (haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and cytology) as requested by veterinarians, in accordance with standard operating procedures.
2. Accurately and promptly recording and reporting results to support optimal treatment decisions.
3. Performing quality control and ensuring the proper maintenance of analysers and equipment.

We are located in rural Sussex, with good train links to London, Brighton, and Worthing. Here, there are lots of country walks, and the seaside is only 20 miles away.
You will be working with a highly skilled team of Vets, Nurses, and Grooms. We have fantastic lab and pharmacy provision, with great staff and a brilliant administrative team.
Our team is made up of 4 specialist Surgeons, 2 Internal Medicine specialists, 2 Repro specialists, and 1 Sports Medicine specialist. We also have 3 Nurses, 4 Student Nurses, 1 Nursing Assistant, 6 Grooms, 2 Pharmacy dispensers, 3 Scientific Officers, a Clinic Supervisor, 6 Interns, 1 Resident, 13 support staff, 2 Housekeepers, and 12 Ambulatory Veterinarians.
We hold a Bi-Yearly Open Day, where we collect donations for a charity as voted by the staff. Moreover, we also sponsor local events and have regular staff socials that everyone can attend.
Essential Qualities:
* Educated to A-level or equivalent or have relevant laboratory experience.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to learn and problem solve.
* To work alone and as part of a team.
* To work under pressure and be able to prioritise and be flexible.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Good IT skills.
* Due to rural setting, having your own car is essential.
Desirable qualities:
* Be a registered biomedical scientist in one or more disciplines.
* Have a degree in a relevant field.
* Have experience working in a diagnostic laboratory.
* Have microbiology experience.
Your shift pattern:
This is a part-time role working 19.5 hours over 3 days, including Saturdays/ bank holiday work as part of a rota.
