Following the expansion of the CCTV Service at Dartford Borough Council, we are looking for people to join our department who will be part of a team responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Council’s CCTV monitoring system and Out of hours call service. You will be required to proactively observe, identify and interpret situations, taking immediate action by notifying the appropriate emergency service(s), security agency or other relevant authority. You will maintain detailed surveillance logs, associated system logs and other documentation in accordance with specified procedures which will require some computer literacy. You will work closely with the Senior CCTV Operations Supervisor to ensure necessary cover in the control room and that all relevant council colleagues are fully briefed on current events. You will also be required to work with the Dartford Town Against Crime Business Crime Reduction Partnership, which will include liaising with private sector CCTV operators and staff as well as Kent Police colleagues to help in the prevention and detection of crime whilst trying to assist in the aprehention of offenders. You must be sufficiently autonomous in making decisions and interventions involving the direction and control of emergency Services to an incident in Dartford covered by CCTV. You should be familiar with and adhere to the principles of the Data Protection Act 2018, Human Rights Act 1998, Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) 2000, Freedom of Information Act 2000 and have sound knowledge of Common Law as it affects the role and be able to produce evidentially compliant copies of CCTV footage for both public and private organisations. You will have excellent communication skills and be comfortable using radio communications equipment. This is a great opportunity to join and become part of a developing team. Although experience in CCTV is desirable, full training will be provided. This post operates on a 3 week rotating shift pattern 8 hours each shift to cover the Control Room 24/7, which includes evening’s weekends and bank holidays. Occasional Lone working is required however the post forms a wider part of the Council’s Community Safety Team. The post holder will need to have or be prepared to achieve an SIA qualification in CCTV monitoring. This post requires Kent Police Vetting.
