Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Ophthalmology Directorate for a Theatre Nurse Practitioner to provide and promote high quality, specialist clinical practice within the multidisciplinary team. The post holder will be based at the Royal Gwent Hospital with the expectation that they may be required to work at different locations across Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. The position will involve supporting the Theatre Nurse Manager to lead the nursing team, ensuring the development of staff and working closely with the Senior nurse and Directorate management teams to maximize utilisation and efficiency of ophthalmic theatre/ daycase and pre-assessment services across health board sites. Main duties of the job To work as a Specialist Nurse Practitioner in the ophthalmic theatre setting providing a high-quality service that will enhance and promote good clinical practice within the multidisciplinary team. The post holder is required to provide technical / specialist ophthalmic assistance requiring dexterity, precision, accuracy and prolonged concentration to patients and medical staff in ophthalmic operations and procedures. To contribute to the smooth running of the department in terms of taking charge of the department in the absence the department manager. To co-ordinate and lead the Agored level 4 training programme for band 3 trainee ophthalmic assistant theatre practitioners and liaise with Band 7 Ophthalmic Practice Educator / Theatre Manager to deliver / co-ordinate other training as required. To work in collaboration with Medical Staff to plan and develop the service and be willing to undertake additional duties within the scope of professional practice. To promote evidence-based practice and act as an accountable role model and clinical expert. To act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. The post holder will work within both ophthalmic theatre, day case and pre-assessment areas to meet the needs of the service on days across the whole week including weekends when required.
