County Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust is looking to appoint an Acute Care Practitioner in the Emergency Department at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
This innovative role provides an excellent career development opportunity for Nurse Practitioners with appropriate skills and qualifications to assess and manage Major-type patients in Emergency Medicine.
The appointments will provide good staff wellbeing, will have dedicated study leave, and 3 hours a week of self-directed study time to develop own skills and training while working with a named educational supervisor.
The post holder will work under the direction of a supervising Consultant and mentor, collaborating with other members of the clinical team within the Trust's policies and clinical guidelines. Successful appointees will perform delegated duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge, working within both adult and paediatric emergency areas.
The post will have a nominal base at Darlington Memorial Hospital, Emergency Department.
Main duties of the job
1. The postholder will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, management, and discharge/referral of patients with a wide range of undiagnosed problems within clinical guidelines.
2. Able to treat undifferentiated patients (including paediatric patients) attending the ED, providing high-quality care.
3. Recognise minor illness/minor injuries pathologies and manage accordingly, referring for relevant follow-up as appropriate.
4. Work as an independent ACP assessing patients using specific protocols for pathways including but not exclusively: wheezy child, croup, head, neck and chest injuries, TIA's, seizure patients.
5. Able to request and interpret relevant investigations to support diagnosis and care planning.
6. Perform diagnostic/therapeutic procedures including but not exclusively: fascia iliac blocks, haematoma blocks, fracture and dislocation reductions, ABG's and interpretation, ECG interpretation.
7. Ensure continuity of care during a span of duty.
8. Perform triage duties for Ambulance handover when required and take responsibility for triggering time to treatment.
9. Work within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure effective team working in the provision of care to ED patients.

Qualifications
Essential
* Completed Bachelor Degree (Level 6).
* Completed Masters Qualification in Clinical Skills or working towards this qualification (Level 7).
* Prepared to work towards competency portfolio for RCEM credentialisation in the first six months of commencing the role.
* Hold current ILS and PILS certification.
* Have non-medical prescribing qualification or willingness to work towards within the first 18 months of employment.
* Willing to work towards TILS within the first two and a half years of employment.
* Willing to work towards Paediatric Clinical Skills (Level 7) and commencement of competencies within two and a half years of employment.
Desirable
* Completed Core Essential Training for internal applicants.

* Previous clinical experience to the level of a Band 6.
Statutory Registration

* Registered General Nurse with NMC Registration.
