Liaise and work closely with the rheumatology nurse specialists and medical team in the delivery of care for patients with rheumatological conditions. Develop autonomous nursing practice and manage own caseload of patients under supervision of the senior nurse specialist and medical staff in the delivery of care. Provide advice to patients, carers and other health professionals via the rheumatology nurse advice line. In providing advice the nurse specialist must recognise their own limitations. Develop musculoskeletal examinations skills. Review rheumatology patients assessing, planning, monitoring and evaluating their care and report any clinical risk. Manage and analyse blood results, recognising abnormal blood results and withholding treatment and repeating bloods as necessary. Request x rays and ultrasounds according to department protocol after appropriate training. Provide IM steroid injections according to PGD after appropriate training. Provide and promote health education and advice in rheumatology and treatments available. Plan and implement care based on sound theoretical knowledge and evidence. Have excellent clinical judgment skills which require analysis and interpretation of a range of clinical options in regards to patient care.
