Job Description
Purpose of the role
To build and maintain the systems that collect, store, process, and analyse data, such as data pipelines, data warehouses and data lakes to ensure that all data is accurate, accessible, and secure.
Accountabilities
1. Build and maintain data architectures and pipelines that enable the transfer and processing of durable, complete, and consistent data.
2. Design and implement data warehouses and data lakes that manage the appropriate data volumes and velocity and adhere to the required security measures.
3. Develop processing and analysis algorithms fit for the intended data complexity and volumes.
4. Collaborate with data scientists to build and deploy machine learning models.
Director Expectations
1. Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function-wide strategic initiatives.
2. Manage, coordinate, and enable resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
3. Escalate breaches of policies/procedures appropriately.
4. Foster and guide compliance, ensuring regulations are observed with relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence.
5. Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays when appropriate.
6. Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division/group to achieve overall business objectives.
7. Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector/functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments/initiatives.
8. Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/sensitive situations.
9. Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
10. Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
11. Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/business divisions.
12. Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.

Role specifics
1. Lead the implementation of a modern data science and ML Ops Cloud platform for the Corporate Bank, enabling the Corporate banking growth strategy.
2. Functional leadership of a global team of approximately 100 data engineers, ML engineers, and data science colleagues.
3. Budget oversight of approximately £10m pa change budget.
4. Interface with Accountable Execs (Business Product Owners) in the Corporate Banking Digital, Data & Analytics functions.
5. Thought leader in concepts of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and ML Ops.
6. Certified in AWS Cloud and/or Databricks.
7. Strong influencing and communication skills.
8. Hands-on technical leader, able to lead by example.
9. Ability to attract diverse, high-performing talent into the team at all levels.
10. Experience of working in Scaled Agile, LeSS, or similar enterprise frameworks.
