My client is looking for a Functional Skills Manager (Maths & English) to work at an establishment around the Glastonbury area. This is a Full-time Temporary Position to start ASAP on an ongoing basis.
Salary: £37,566 - £40,041 per annum.
You will be expected to be on site 37 hours per week during the whole academic year and will teach no more than 12 hours per week.

• A Relevant Teaching Qualification

Job Purpose
Leadership and management of the Maths and English delivery teams, to ensure students receive a high-quality learning experience and achieve outstanding results. To lead and manage all activities related to the planning, delivery and assessment of maths and English (GCSE and Functional Skills), always ensuring compliance with awarding organisation and quality regulators requirements.
Main Responsibilities
• Management of the day-to-day operational activities of 5 teachers delivering maths and English as part of study programmes. The Manager will work collaboratively with other college managers to ensure all teachers delivering maths and English within their own provision maintain a consistent approach to the delivery of a high-quality maths and English curriculum.
• To be a specialist in English and maths delivery, to assist and advise the Assistant Principal regarding developing policy, procedures and a framework for English and maths assessment
• Be fully conversant with course regulations and specifications, ensuring quality assurance processes are implemented and robustly complied with.
• To assist the Assistant Principal with timetabling English and maths classes, arranging cover where necessary
• Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) activities, lead on sharing good practice strategies / curriculum developments within your curriculum area
• Assist and advise the Assistant Principal and English and maths teams in the effective planning, structuring, sequencing, delivery and assessment of the maths and English curriculum, ensuring it meets the needs of all students, awarding organisations and quality regulators.
• Collaborate with the Additional Learning Support (ALS) team (both in and out of the classroom) to ensure the needs of students with SEND are actively met, including those with high needs/Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs)
• Work closely with teachers, personal tutors and course managers to monitor attendance and ensure appropriate and timely interventions are made to support students where attendance / performance falls below college expectations / key performance indicator (KPI).
• Co-ordinate and lead on internal verification and assessment planning across programmes within your responsibility.
• Organise /chair and minute regular team meetings, building a sense of cooperation and teamwork.
• Act as a course manager or academic tutor as required and teach a maximum of 12 hours per week, arranging cover / covering where required.
• Support and mentor the English and Maths teams to develop their specialist skills, deliver CPD as required and proactively seek opportunities for the team to develop their pedagogy and skills.
• Work collaboratively with the Director of Quality and maths and English Teachers to write the cross-college English and Maths Self-Assessment Report (SAR) in line with the Quality Schedule.
• Bring new ideas and try new ideas/approaches with an open mind. Create the English and maths Quality Improvement action plan, and update progress in line with the College Quality Assurance cycle.
• Contribute to Quality Assurance activities such as lesson observations and learning walks.
• Attend Curriculum and Quality Committee (CQC) meetings where invited.
• To prepare progress and other reports for the Assistant Principal and Director of Quality as required.
