Rate of Pay: £22.05 - £28.14 per Hour
Summary:
The Senior Development Management Officer is responsible for managing complex planning applications, conducting site visits, and ensuring compliance with local and national planning regulations. This role involves providing expert planning advice, supporting policy development, and engaging with stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes aligned with North Northamptonshire Councils growth and regeneration objectives.
Responsibilities:
* Development Management: Manage and assess a variety of planning applications, including complex and major developments, ensuring compliance with planning legislation and policies. Conduct site inspections and produce detailed reports with recommendations for planning committees.
* Policy Compliance & Advisory: Provide specialist planning advice to internal and external stakeholders. Ensure all work complies with local planning policies, national frameworks, and legislative guidelines. Support the preparation and implementation of development plans and policy initiatives.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with developers, members of the public, and council committees to discuss and negotiate planning proposals. Represent the council at public consultations, planning appeals, and committee meetings, ensuring a clear and professional presentation of planning matters.
* Project & Case Management: Handle a caseload of planning applications, appeals, and enforcement cases, prioritizing and managing deadlines effectively. Work collaboratively with the Development Management Team Leader and other colleagues to deliver consistent, high-quality service and support on significant development projects.
* Site Visits & Reporting: Conduct site visits to gather information and verify planning compliance. Prepare comprehensive reports and recommendations for planning committees, ensuring accuracy and clarity in all documentation.
Qualifications:
* Degree in Town Planning, Urban Design, or a related field.
* Membership or eligibility for membership with the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
* In-depth knowledge of UK planning law, policy frameworks, and development management.
Experience:
* Proven experience managing complex planning applications and major development projects.
* Strong track record of advising on and applying UK planning policies and regulations.
* Experience handling public consultations, planning committees, and appeals.
