Recycling Centre Site Operative – Across Essex Recycling Centres
Permanent, Part Time Annualised Hours
£13 per hour

We’re currently recruiting for Site Operatives to join our Waste Service on a flexible basis providing support across different Recycling Centres across Essex County Council. These roles will be offered on an annualised hour contract where you will be required to work a minimum of 7.4 hours (one shift) per year with the opportunity to pick up additional shifts as and when they become available. Please note our recycling centres are open seven days a week.
If successful, your base recycling centre will be Pitsea, but you will also be required to travel within a 20-mile radius of your recycling centre base to support at our other sites as and when needed.
As this role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area, you will need to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle, or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means.
What will you be doing?
As a Recycling Centre Site Operative your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
1. Assisting the public with any questions, queries, or complaints.
2. Maintaining a clean, tidy, and risk-free site.
3. Assisting in providing clear instructions to subcontractors / hauliers.
4. Operating plant machinery and overseeing waste movements.
5. Ensuring proper storage of materials for optimal recycling.
6. Ensuring compliance with safety standards.
7. Contributing to safe and efficient site operations.
8. Supporting the team with administrative tasks as and when required.
9. To assist with operations, on occasions you may be required to work at an alternative Recycling Centre.

The Experience You Will Bring
Essential:
16. Able to work on foot for lengthy periods of time.
17. Ability to work without supervision as well as part of a team.
18. Experience within a customer facing position.
19. Able to complete manual handling tasks.
20. Able to complete basic reading and writing tasks.
21. A willingness to learn new systems.
22. Willing to complete training necessary to fulfil the role,. First Aid, Plant Operator, Fire Marshall
23. Full Driving License
Desirable:
24. Computer literate (especially Microsoft Excel and Outlook) with good administration skills.
25. IOSH Working Safely or equivalent safety accreditation.
26. NPORS or similar Plant Operators Licence/Qualification on Material Handler, with previous experience operating plant machinery preferably within the waste industry.

Interviews are scheduled to take place on Thursday 10th April at Brentwood Recycling Centre.
