Candidate must either holds or have recently held a government security clearance, or is suitable for and willing to go through the vetting process (suitability would include an absence of a serious criminal record, UK citizen, not dual national, a right to work and live in UK and, preferably, a record of 5 years’ UK residency. Key Responsibilities and Tasks Reporting to the Programme Chief Solution Architect, develop solution architectures delivered in conjunction with other IT Architects and SMEs Provide strategic direction of projects’ architectures and HLDs Producing written evidence to support MOD assurance Working with various teams across the business including Software Engineering, DevSecOps Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Agile and Cyber Security Ensuring and assuring technical rigor in architectures and procurements, by applying deep subject matter expertise and extensive industry knowledge Proven ability to architect application solutions through mapping both user and business service solutions requirements right through to providing leadership in the implementation of those solutions into technology agnostic service management solutions Takes responsibility for the integrity of the solution areas that are his/her responsibility The Solution Architect will have good working knowledge across all the five POPIT (Process, Organisation, People, Information, Technology) channel disciplines. Demonstrable experience of working as the Solution Owner and ability to lead and drive the solution to delivery Supporting the business and customer in challenging industry suppliers (new and current), to assimilate best practice, evergreen their services and to design and implement for maximum benefit and performance Promoting industry best practice in technology and tools within each of their specialist disciplines Ensuring coherence in the use of tools and technologies, including reuse rather than duplication where appropriate Architecture: Understanding of the Business and use of solutions architecture Impact of architecture on the business – the business benefits Modelling, analysis and design techniques and approaches Industry best practice in the business/solutions application architecture space Produce application solution architectures (HLD, LLD etc.) Define solution performance and specify requirements Produce stakeholder focused models of the solution Produce detailed high level design models for the appropriate POPIT channels Define overall solution architecture test approach / strategy Define overall solution architecture acceptance test criteria Experience (Essential) Support development in a secure by design methodology Be able to work at a technical level with teams Identification / design / selection of appropriate security components to provide security enforcing functions (e.g. network, endpoints, cryptography, authentication, authorisation, data inspection etc.) for a variety of infrastructures including cloud environments An excellent knowledge of current technologies used by the MOD and the ability to adapt these to the environment Proven track record of working and delivering multiple IT front-end and back-end solutions, development and release management strategies, change management and direct leadership in designing solutions/services that meet or exceed customer needs for major Defence Programmes Substantial Design and Development of complex systems including undertaking assessment, problem solving and technical reviews Experience must include Waterfall & Agile/Scrum methodologies Proven experience in working collaboratively across multiple product development and specialist domain teams Application of System Engineering analysis processes and demonstrable continuous improvement initiatives Expertise is the use of Requirement, Architectural, System and Modelling Management Tools Proven experience in working collaboratively across multiple programmes and product development and specialist domain teams Soft Skills Must have excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentational), showing tact, effective listening skills, present and defend points of view to a variety of audiences, follow through and anticipate questions while being prepared with answers or follow-up The ability to work independently with little or no supervision researching new technologies or comparing technologies to meet customer needs while providing an unbiased opinion Ability to define and analyse user requirements and advise on scope and options for business and operational improvements Ability to present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences and to prepare and deliver briefings and presentations for project teams, management and customers as appropriate Candidate must be a team player and be able to follow processes and procedures, with an ability to analyse, design and optimise both user and business processes via technology and integration Self-disciplined, self-starter, professional who can successfully bring projects to closure from a technical point of view with minimum direction, guidance and oversight Why SIXWORKS?
