The post is for a Consultant Plastic Surgeon with an interest in Plastic Surgery, within the Musculoskeletal and Specialist Surgery Clinical Management Group (MSS CMG) with the majority of the Plastic surgery services being based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary within the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
The post holder will be 1 of 7 Plastic Surgeons offering General and Sub-Speciality Plastic Surgery.
The department of Plastic Surgery provides a Consultant led team approach to adult and paediatric inpatient treatment across the broad spectrum of Plastic Surgery disorders.
The post holder would ideally have experience and knowledge in Microsurgery experience, Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy, Skin Cancer Fellowship, Paediatric Plastics Surgery and Hand Trauma.
Main duties of the job
The overriding purpose is to support the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.
1. Responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department.
2. To cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences where job plans allow.
3. Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures.
4. Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally.
5. Participating in medical audit, the Trust's Clinical Governance processes and in CPD - CPD is provided in job plans and attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory.
6. In line with GMC Good Medical Practice it is the responsibility of the post-holder to ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work.
7. The post-holder is expected to respond in a timely fashion to legitimate requests from Trust officers - this might include investigations of incidents or complaints.
8. The post-holder is expected to participate in professional continuing medical education; study leave is provided for this purpose.

Job responsibilities
1. The post-holder will be required to maintain their continuing professional development (CPD) to be able to successfully revalidate.
2. As per the Trust requirement the successful candidate will be required to have annual appraisal and attend / keep fully up to date with statutory and mandatory training as stipulated.
3. The post-holder will be expected to undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific Induction and competency Programmes appropriate to role.
4. To be able to provide support when needed for the care of patients with emergency admissions or day attenders during office hours.
5. To be a point of escalation when the junior doctors require senior consultant advice.
6. To provide Consultant Plastic Surgery services at the University Hospitals of Leicester.
7. To provide Consultant Plastic Surgery services by way of outpatient clinics and outpatient procedure lists at the University Hospitals of Leicester and in peripheral units.
8. To work flexibly and cooperatively with the other consultant surgeons to maximise the utilisation of outpatient procedure lists and outpatient clinics.
9. The on call commitment will be 1:7 to include weekends and bank holidays.
10. To ensure the provision of good standards of practice and care as described in the GMC Guidance Duties of a Doctor are followed at all times; and that bad practice is reported.
11. To ensure that clinical practice is both effective and efficient and that appropriate monitoring of clinical care takes place.
12. To work with the Clinical Management Group (CMG) team to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and reflect best practice with processes and governance to match - this may require new and flexible ways of working in the future.
13. To provide continuing responsibility for the care of patients under their care and for the proper organisation and functioning of clinical practice.
14. To work closely with other specialties, departments and outside agencies to deliver the objectives of the department and the CMG.
15. To take responsibility for ensuring that critical clinical incidents, as defined in the Trusts Critical Incident Policy, are reported in a timely manner.
16. Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
17. To share with colleagues responsibility for the day to day management of patients.
18. To promote new ways of working and co-ordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that the services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community.
19. To proactively develop the service and actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
20. To participate in yearly appraisal and job planning process.
21. To undertake Mandatory & Statutory training as determined by the Trust and CMG.
22. To support allied health professionals in their development.

Qualifications / Training
* MB BS or Equivalent.
* Full GMC Registration.
* MRCP/MRCS or Equivalent.
* Fully Accredited for Higher Specialist Training or will be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date.
* Membership of relevant Specialist Societies or Associations.
Experience / Clinical Skills
* Fully trained in General Plastic Surgery.
* Excellent clinical skills and experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the job plan.
* Experience in Microsurgery including Breast Reconstruction.
* Experience in Skin Cancer including Lymph Node Surgery.
* Experience in Paediatric Plastic Surgery.
* Burns management.
Management
