UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) is on a mission to protect clean sport and currently has an exciting opportunity available for you to join us.
We’re looking to recruit a Science and Information Officer joining the Operations Directorate to play an active role overseeing UK Anti-Doping’s Substance Enquiry Service which receives over 500 athlete and support personnel enquiries per year.

Job purpose
You will oversee UK Anti-Doping’s Substance Enquiry Service and lead on assessing the physiological and physical demands of over 40 sports to support the organisation’s annual assessment of the risk of doping in these sports. You will also support the delivery of the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) programme.
Key result areas include
* Answer athlete and support personnel enquiries related to the anti-doping status of dietary supplements and medications, and the requirements for obtaining a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE)
* Lead on assessing the physiological and physical demands of sports and the identification of substances that could appeal to athletes from a doping perspective as a consequence of these identified demands
* Create and maintain sport specific periodisation calendars that identify high risk periods for doping within a sport in order to assist test distribution plans
* Conduct literature reviews on emerging substances related to doping - write internal briefing documents in order to improve the organisations knowledge about the nature of these substances and athlete advisory notes to warn athletes about their emergence
* Assign athlete biological passports to members of the UK Athlete Passport Management Unit (APMU) Haematological Expert Panel and ensure the timely review of these passports
* Liaise with International Federations to obtain custody of athlete biological passports and process read-access requests within the Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS)
* Contribute to the development of education and information resources related to dietary supplements, and assist in the occasional delivery of presentations and webinars
Person specification
Qualifications/experience/knowledge
* Possess a bachelors’ degree in an area relevant to the position (for example, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, exercise physiology, pharmacology, sport and exercise sciences, and sports medicine)
* A master’s degree or equivalent is desirable
* Experience of communicating complex scientific or medical messages in simple terms
* Possess an understanding of the mechanisms of action and effects of drugs used in sport
* Possess an understanding of how physiological systems in the body work and how confounding factors can affect biological variables within these systems
* Experience in completing critical reviews of scientific literature and presenting summarised results
* Possess an understanding of the physiological demands of sport, how athletes train, and what sometimes drives them to push the boundaries
* Experience of managing, analysing, and interpreting data
* Experience of working with others to achieve a goal
* Possess an understanding of data protection and confidentiality, and experience of managing information with discretion
