The key mission is to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the plant, with a strong emphasis on Health, Safety, and Environmental aspects. In addition, it involves leading a team of qualified individuals with enthusiasm, self-motivation, and strong organizational skills. The primary responsibilities encompass operating, inspecting, and maintaining the asphalt plant to produce materials that meet the company's quality standards. This role also involves planning the production for the following day based on customer requirements and the plant's capabilities, managing start-up and shut-down procedures, and optimizing throughput within the plant's capacity. Thorough inspection and monitoring of the plant, following the site's established regimen, are essential. Maintenance and repair of the plant, within the individual's scope and competence, along with accurate record-keeping in line with management requirements, are crucial. Additionally, this role includes the refuelling of both static and mobile machines and the operation of mobile plant equipment, such as Front-End Loaders (FEL) for loading and plant feed, and dumpers for mineral movement, as directed by site management. Ensuring the safe and proper operation of machines is of paramount importance. Furthermore, the position entails undertaking maintenance work on both static and mobile plant equipment as required by the manufacturer's guidelines and Heidelberg Materials standards. It's important to note that these duties may also extend to other Heidelberg Materials sites within a reasonable traveling distance, with provisions for transport or travel allowances if the distance exceeds the standard journey.
Key accountabilities
1. To ensure that the company Health and Safety Policy, Local Managers Rules, and all Risk Assessments and Method Statements relating to work or works under your control are complied with.
2. To liaise closely with work colleagues, Unit Manager, Suppliers, and Contractors to ensure the smooth and efficient running and programming of the plant for production.
3. To provide continuous supervision of activities, to ensure the efficient and cost-effective utilization of labour, plant, and material resources.
4. To continue your own progress by means of CPD (Continuous Professional Development) and by attending training courses and seminars as determined by Heidelberg Materials.
5. To operate static and mobile plant in a safe and efficient manner.
6. To maintain where required mobile plant in good order physically with re-fuelling, greasing, cleaning in accordance with the manufacturers and Heidelberg Materials recommendations.
7. To complete daily inspection sheets of the conditions of static & mobile plant.
8. To report problems or defects of static & mobile plant to the site supervisor.
9. To complete near miss reports as required by Site Management.
10. To operate plant & machinery in an energy-efficient manner.
11. Good timekeeping.

Education/Qualification
1. Reasonable General Level of Education.
2. NVQ Level 2 - Process Operation.
Skills
1. Knowledge of SHE, QA, Product knowledge, and technical awareness.
2. Knowledge of site-specific SHE procedures and rules (including basic introduction of Health and Safety Policies and Procedures Manual) and Quarry Regulations 1999.
3. Knowledge of all relevant job-related rules contained within the Health and Safety Policies and Procedures manual (e.g. Section 25 - Managers Rules, Section 27 - Quarries Regulations 1999, Section 20 - Personal Protective Equipment, etc.)
4. Basic mechanical experience.
5. The job holder must be mechanically minded being able to identify possible breakdowns prior to plant failure.
6. Experience, knowledge, and a high standard of process control.
7. Working knowledge of plant/maintenance/repairs.
8. Working knowledge of production materials.
9. In addition to these functions, employees are required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required.
