School-Aged Health Improvement and Prevention Service, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, Service Manager
JOB DESCRIPTION
The school aged health improvement and prevention service (SHIPS) is a new service being developed across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. We are looking for a well-rounded individual to lead and manage the service who has insight and experience within the fields of education, PSHE and public health.
MAIN PURPOSE
To lead and further develop the SHIPS programme of work, including: coordinating the delivery of health promotion programmes and initiatives in educational and Child/Youth focussed settings, working closely with settings to support them in implementing a whole school approach to health and wellbeing in line with OFSTED requirements.
Networking with relevant partners to raise the service profile and collaborating across organisations to identify opportunities for more joined-up working which minimises duplication and ensures a clear and comprehensive system-wide offer to settings, aimed at improving the health and well-being of the school aged population. The role includes leading and promotion of preventative sexual health work across the county, incorporating targeted health education, and co-ordination of the C-Card scheme for young people up to the age of 25.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
* Manage the delivery of community services to children and young people in a variety of settings including schools, colleges, youth groups etc.
* Line manage a team of coordinators who will manage a team of health improvement practitioners.
* Create partnerships with community groups and key stakeholders involved in the health, well-being and education of children and young people, attending County wide meetings and events relevant to the school aged population and partner organisations.
* Lead and co-ordinate partnerships to identify opportunities for collaborative working, maximise collective resources, and avoid duplication, ensuring support and resources for schools are developed in line with educational best-practice.
* Liaise closely with education, health and social care services including sexual health services.
* Promote the Catch Your Breath smoking/vaping intervention programme, ensuring that primary and secondary school pupils are aware of the impact of smoking/vaping on their health and wellbeing.
* To lead on the continuous development of the Catch Your Breath smoking/vaping intervention programme, ensuring that it reflects changes in national legislation and guidance to make primary and secondary schools pupils aware of the impact of smoking/vaping on their health & wellbeing.
* Manage the delivery of other health improvement themes in education settings, for example drugs and alcohol, oral health, nutrition and physical health.
* Ensure that the service meets agreed key performance indicators.
* Collect and report on qualitative, quantitative and outcomes/impact data to demonstrate effective service delivery.
* Complete data, finance and narrative reports for commissioners and attend contract meetings to allow scrutiny of the service delivered.
* Lead on the evaluation of the service, service improvement and development of new service areas as priorities change in line with the internal, local neighbourhood and commissioner insight and evidence.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
1. SKILLS & ABILITIES
* Ability to engage with children and young people.
* Experience of presenting/teaching to groups of all ages and levels.
* Competent in being able to analyse data, adapting service offers accordingly.
* Experience of using education, NHS and public health data to target service delivery.
* Competent in using social media for advertising and promotion.
* Be able to work independently, and as part of a team, demonstrating leadership.
* Competent in Microsoft Office.
* Ability to motivate groups.
* Ability to form and lead partnerships.
2. KNOWLEDGE
* Knowledge and understanding of the education system, OFSTED framework requirements in relation to Health Education, and operational and ways of working.
* Knowledge and understanding of public health.
* Knowledge and understanding of the benefits of physical activity, healthy eating.
* Knowledge and understanding of the benefits of preventing smoking and vaping and the cessation of both for those who engage in this activity.
* Knowledge and understanding of local services and community groups.
* Knowledge and understanding of the developing services.
3. EXPERIENCE
* Experienced service manager of NHS, education or public health community services (Essential).
* Line manager experience (Essential).
* Safeguarding experience (Desirable).
* Experience of partnership working with a variety of stakeholders and community groups (Essential).
* Data collection, collating and presenting (Desirable).
* Experience delivering training workshops (Desirable).
* Sexual health interest (Essential), Sexual Health qualification (Desirable).
* Smoking/Vaping cessation interest/skills amongst C&YP (Desirable).
4. QUALIFICATIONS
* Public Health Degree or equivalent (Desirable).
* SCPHN or RN (Child) qualification/registration (Desirable).
5. SPECIAL CONDITIONS
* Have a car with business insurance and be able to travel across Cambridgeshire & Peterborough.
* Enhanced DBS required.
