The Haematology Medical Director will be based in the Vertex offices in Paddington and provide medical expertise for the Haematology team. This position is accountable for the development and implementation of strategy and plans for the assigned areas, working in partnership with cross functional team colleagues to develop and implement activities aligned with patient, HCPs and broader corporate needs. The Haematology Medical Director is also responsible for building and encouraging scientific excellence within the assigned region/country and will establish and maintain close partnerships with HCPs, scientific societies and patient organizations. It is estimated that up to 25% of the time may be external to the office - working with these stakeholders. The individual will work closely with a cross-functional group that includes International Medical Affairs, Commercial, Market Access, Global, Government Affairs, Corporate Communications, Legal, Compliance (OBIE), Regulatory, Research & Development and Finance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
* Work closely with Global, Regional and Country Teams to develop and ensure flawless execution of the Haematology Medical Plans, aligned with the Global and International Medical strategy, and in accordance with corporate policies and procedures and applicable local laws, regulations and code of practice.
* Develop and maintain high level, clinical and scientific knowledge in all applicable therapeutic areas.
* Maintain a seamless flow of information within and between local, regional and global teams, and communicate medical insights obtained locally from appropriate field interactions to inform local and regional strategy/ tactics.
* Ensure excellent working partnerships are developed with HCPs based on scientific excellence and trust, and provide fair and balanced medical information and education to HCPs and other relevant stakeholders that support the safe and effective use of Vertex’ medicines in the appropriate patients.
* Ensure high level of support and contribution to access efforts through the preparation/review of reimbursement dossiers, scientific engagement of key stakeholders, presentation of scientific data as required to key stakeholders in the access process, incorporation of medical insights into strategy, perform data gap analysis relevant to access and support locally needed data generation as appropriate.
* Plan, prepare and deliver advisory board meetings, symposia and other medical education activities to enhance the medical knowledge of pipeline and marketed products, as required and in accordance with local regulations and procedures.
* Assess promotional materials and ensure that all claims are fully supported by scientific data, and are presented in an accurate, fair and balanced manner.

Knowledge and Skills:
* Fluency in both spoken and written English required.

Education and Experience:
* MD or equivalent advanced degree (e.g. PhD in Haematology).
* Experience in Haematology or cell and gene therapy within a clinical setting and/or pharmaceutical industry.
* Ability to work effectively in a highly matrix environment, within a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team on common projects and goals, at national and international level.
* Previous track record of successful HTA submissions or involvement in advising health technology bodies e.g. NICE desirable.
* Experience with product launches and life-cycle management desirable.
* Experience in orphan diseases desirable.
