Band 6 Occupational Therapist working on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Wards at Potters Bar Community Hospital, working as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive assessment, treatment and discharge planning to patients with a variety of conditions.
Main duties of the job
CLINICAL DUTIES
1. To assess the functional needs of patients providing intervention plans based on protocols and pathways.
2. To complete OT specific assessments.
3. To independently manage a delegated caseload.
4. To carry out and record comprehensive assessments.
5. To prescribe and monitor equipment, adaptations and assistive technology to improve or maintain independence.
6. To manage clients across their care pathway from hospital to home by referring to and liaising with appropriate services.
7. To participate in clinical audit.
8. To maintain concise and accurate reports.
9. To participate in seven day working.
COMMUNICATION
1. To maintain communication links with other disciplines and agencies.
2. To communicate effectively with patients and carers.
MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP
1. To professionally support and supervise junior members.
2. To deputise for the therapy team leader in their absence, taking the lead on the OT caseload.
PROFESSIONALISM
1. To maintain professional standards of practice at all times.
2. To maintain confidentiality of any information received as a part of your duties.
TEACHING AND TRAINING
1. To attend and contribute to the in-service training lectures and external courses relevant to the clinical areas.
2. To undertake the supervision of OT Students on placement.
3. To participate in regular supervision with the Clinical Specialist OT.

Job description
Job responsibilities
1. To be responsible for the provision of Occupational Therapy in our Rehabilitation Beds ensuring that services support the discharge of patients by providing specialist assessment and treatment.
2. To work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the rehabilitation units to facilitate timely assessment and timely, coordinated discharge planning as required.
3. To work within professional standards and clinical guidelines, promote best practice and to undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner including assessing and treating own caseload of patients/clients and maintaining professional documentation.
4. To hold responsibility for own caseload, working with and without direct supervision.
5. To be responsible for supervision of junior Occupational Therapists, Rehabilitation Assistants and Student Occupational Therapists.
6. To work flexibly, being willing to work on other Units if/when required.

Education/Qualifications
Essential
* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
Desirable
* Relevant Post graduate training.
* Member of BAOT.
Experience
Essential
* Experience of working as part of an MDT.
* Experience of completing assessments and creating treatment plans.
* Relevant work experience in a variety of clinical specialties.
* Ability to manage time/caseload effectively.
* Commitment to client-centred, non-discriminatory practice.
* Commitment to lifelong learning.

* Knowledge of current best practice in OT.
