We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to join the Psychology Team working at HMP Ranby. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to support the ongoing delivery of the core consultation services, to support with early identification offering a mix of consultation, formulation, supervision, training and time limited intervention.
You will be a vital member of our small but compassionate team and can expect excellent supervision, a variety of learning opportunities and lots of support through this stage of your career journey. You will be supporting and enhancing the professional psychological care of clients within the service; providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions (individual and group work) under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist.
Main duties of the job
Assistant Psychologists are highly regarded in our department. In this post you will support clinical psychologists to complete assessments and interventions with a range of clients, staff and carers. You will liaise with formal and informal carers and work with multi-disciplinary colleagues to assess and support the psychological well being of people with intellectual disabilities. You will also assist the Head of Department with case reviews, audit and service evaluation.
A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.
Job responsibilities
Assist with the identification of individuals with likely problematic personality traits. Under supervision provide specialist psychological case consultation through planned consultation clinics and informally in response to advice requests. Providing specialist case formulations under supervision on the cases with the most complex needs where establishing the management arrangements and pathway requires a sophisticated understanding of the individual. To provide an explanation that helps probation staff understand an individual's behaviour, presentation and problems. It will use a framework to develop a hypothesis, or theory, about the onset, motivation and maintenance factors about an individual's behaviour and functioning and should provide a testable hypothesis and prediction about how offender managers may engage effectively with the individual.
Person Specification
Qualifications - Academic / Professional
* Psychology honours degree 2:1 or higher, meeting the requirements for graduate basis for Chartered Membership with the British Psychological Society
Physical requirements
* Has the physical ability to perform the full range of duties of the post, including observation and data collection
Experience
* Experience of working with offenders or patients with mental health problems/intellectual & developmental disabilities/ personality disorders, and substance misuse.
* Experience of working under the supervision of a qualified psychologist.
* Experience of completing risk assessments.
* Experience of psychometric testing (delivery, scoring and interpretation).
* Experience of supporting the development of structured group programmes.
Skills
* Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health/substance misuse context.
* Evidence of ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively
* Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with regular supervision.
* Skills and experience in SPSS, databases/spreadsheets.
Contractual Requirements
* Able to travel across the Trust's geographical area. A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post. However, reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.
