About the Team:
The Data and Information team leads Ofcom's transformation into a data- and insight-driven organization, providing expertise in data science, machine learning, and data engineering.
Purpose of the Role:
We are looking for data talent to join the Data Science and Machine Learning team as the product owner of some of our data products and prototyping work. You will apply a broad range of methods to real-world problems, such as using deep learning for natural language processing to support policy development.
Your key responsibilities:
* Work with stakeholders and product managers to map out implementation plans.
* Engage with stakeholders to capture needs and translate them into features and roadmaps.
* Develop the implementation roadmap along with epics and task tickets for data products.
* Implement Power BI, Microsoft Azure, LLM, and Machine Learning solutions while guiding junior developers.
* Promote data science, machine learning, and NLP skills in other teams.
* Lead the development of credible data solutions from various data sources.
* Explore and visualize data to present insights effectively.
* Maintain knowledge of the latest tools and techniques in natural language processing.
* Provide methodological and technical advice to early career data scientists.
* Contribute to the continuous development of our data science workflow.
* Ensure compliance with relevant data and information security principles.
* Apply project management skills to translate business requirements into actionable projects.
* Support colleagues in engagement with external stakeholders on data-related topics.
The skills, knowledge and experience you will need for success:
* Experience with data and analytic tools (e.g., Python, R, Power BI, Azure ML).
* Knowledge of working with LLMs and related libraries.
* Experience with various data science and machine learning methods.
* Applying scientific methods through experimental design and hypothesis testing.
* Familiarity with agile and scrum practices.
* Building Solutions: Translating complex business problems into analytical projects.
* Empowering Development: Supporting junior staff and their projects.
* Articulating Ideas: Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication.
* Harmonising Work: Flexibility and adaptability in team settings.
Qualifications:
* Degree in a numerate discipline, computer science, or equivalent.
* Experience in data science or an equivalent role.
