About the Job
Overview of the Role of Senior Project Worker
To assess and support service users with a range of needs, including addiction, mental or physical health, welfare benefits, budgeting, cultural/faith needs and move-on. To play a role in maximising the independence and skills of service users, including, where appropriate delivering life skills training and accessing outside support and services. To ensure that the project offers a safe, rehabilitative home for the service users. To support, supervise and direct the other staff, in particular ancillary staff, in conjunction with the Manager and Deputy Manager.
Responsibilities
1. Interviewing and assessing prospective service users for accommodation.
2. Interviewing, appointing and managing ancillary staff.
3. Supervising, directing and supporting staff, ensuring performance standards. Carrying out annual appraisals of staff.
4. Attending senior staff meetings to monitor and progress the hostel’s performance in accordance with YMCA Brighton’s policies, budgets, aims and plans.
5. Undertaking administrative tasks for internal and external purposes.
6. Overseeing and carrying out the instructions of senior managers in ensuring adherence to YMCA Brighton’s published policies and procedures.
7. Maintaining confidentiality according to GDPR and confidentiality policies.
8. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of service users, volunteers, and their families.
9. Assisting in tasks necessary for the day-to-day running of the project.
10. Meeting and consulting with individual service users to assess needs and plan support goals.
11. Accessing, liaising with, and developing links with other organisations and services.
12. Maintaining detailed casework files, and keeping accurate records of each individual’s needs and progress.
13. Monitoring the security and safety of the project.
14. Ensuring service users comply with the terms of their license or tenancy.
15. Representing YMCA Brighton at internal and external meetings.
16. Carrying out sleep-in or on-call duties as arranged.
17. Participating in training, meetings, supervision and appraisal.
18. Following YMCA Brighton’s Code of Conduct for staff.
19. Undertaking any other duties as directed.
Personal Specification: Senior Project Worker
Knowledge and Understanding
1. Understanding of confidentiality and information-sharing issues.
2. Knowledge of issues facing homeless/vulnerable adults and of housing/mental health/community care services.
3. Knowledge of safeguarding principles.
Experience
1. Experience working with vulnerable people in a housing, support or residential environment.
2. Experience providing advice and/or creating support plans.
Skills and Abilities
1. Strong organisational and time-management skills.
2. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of clients and outside agencies.
3. IT literacy to at least ‘Word’ level.
Personal Qualities

Other Requirements
Ability to work shifts and unsociable hours on a rota basis, including sleep-in/on-call duties.
