JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title Staff Nurse RMN Pay £35,000-£45,000 depending on experience Hours 37.5 hrs per week Reports to Clinical Services Manager Manages Support Workers/Learners Job Summary: Staff nurses work closely with the people who use our services, their families, friends and carers and make an important contribution in how people experience our services. Staff nurses work as part of a team and contribute to the success of the team by drawing support from more experienced nurses and other health professionals but also by supervising other staff and learner to ensure they are working to the standards which the people using our services deserve. You will act as the Named Nurse for allocated patients, ensuring their care plans are up-to-date, recovery-focused, and that risk management strategies are effectively implemented. Additionally, you will coordinate shifts as required and provide leadership in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment. Improving lives: Our mission is to enable people to live independent lives, risk free and be part of a local community Key Responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities: Act as the Named Nurse for a designated group of patients, ensuring high standards of care are maintained. Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Liaise with and provide support to patients relatives and significant others. Ensure all relevant documentation is completed in accordance with Pathfinder Ashness House procedures and professional guidelines. Stay current with clinical developments Ensure compliance with the NMC Code of Conduct, Scope of Professional Practice, and Standards of Record Keeping. Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to Pathfinder Ashness House and professional policies. Adhere to all Pathfinder Ashness House policies, procedures, and local protocols. Utilise resources appropriately to minimise waste. Professional Duties: Safeguarding people by recognising and responding when an adult or child might be at risk from abuse but also recognising their limits and asking for help and escalating concerns when necessary Adhere to the Named Nurse concept, organising nursing using an individualised approach. Complete and maintain all necessary patient care planning and clinical documentation. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment and care. Report any concerns regarding patient care, treatment, or progress to senior nursing staff. Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act 1983, upholding patients' rights always. Manage the witnessing, administering, and storage of medication in line with Pathfinder Ashness House policy and current legislation. Advise non-clinical staff on the management of patients with mental illness. Participate in nursing and other research initiatives as appropriate. Being open and transparent about their practice Reflecting on everyday practice to identify areas where improvements in safety or quality can be made Managerial Duties: Ensure the ward environment complies with Health and Safety Regulations and Pathfinder Ashness House policy. Report any Health and Safety concerns immediately as per company procedure. Requisition stock items as appropriate. Prepare reports on complaints, accidents, or incidents in accordance with Pathfinder Ashness House policy. Act as an officer for the receipt of documents for the Mental Health Act 1983 in the absence of senior nursing or administrative staff. Ensure adherence to all emergency procedures, including Fire and PIT Alarm protocols. Participate in the coaching, development, and supervision of junior staff as requested. Serve as the "Bleep Holder" when allocated, acting as the central point of communication outside office hours. General Duties: Participate in professional development activities, including all statutory and mandatory training. Develop positive relationships with outside agencies and always promote the units services. Recognize the importance of customer care and present a positive, courteous, and helpful attitude. Act in the absence of senior staff when required. Perform any other duties within your capabilities as requested by senior staff. Quality Assurance: Accurately perform and document assessment tasks delegated by the team, ensuring timely communication of relevant information. Report any significant changes in patients' health and wellbeing. Obtain consent from patients before initiating care. Respect patients privacy, dignity, and preferences, minimising any unnecessary discomfort. Prepare for and support patients in promoting their own health and wellbeing. Actively manage clinical risks in accordance with care plans and company policy. Work within the parameters of the Recovery Model and assist in the use of formal Recovery Model tools. Assist in compliance with CQUIN data. Support the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in the delivery of clinical care, including the provision of 25 hours of therapy per week. Personal and People Development: Participate in supervision and appraisal processes. Maintain an active personal development program, identifying training needs and proactively seeking guidance. Act consistently with joint decisions made by the team, taking individual responsibility for these decisions. Provide sufficient information on work in progress to enable others to understand progress and issues. Address and handle issues in joint working constructively.
