A range of exciting opportunities are available within North Lanarkshire to support children who have a broad range of additional support needs.
We are recruiting for a permanent Enhanced Support Assistant based within the Deaf Children and Young People Services Team.
This team operates a peripatetic model based out of Glencairn Primary School.
As an Enhanced Support Assistant, you will work with children who have additional support needs, some of whom have needs of a severe or complex nature, to support them in their school environment. This involves children and young people with more complex health care needs and children within the deaf community.
Enhanced Support Assistants have a key role in leading training and development within the wider support team. There will be additional training opportunities and key responsibilities identified through discussions with line managers and in line with the council’s overall objectives.
Successful candidates may be required to support the training and development of staff in their own establishment and across North Lanarkshire, which will require flexibility for staff to travel to other settings if needed.
Successful applicants will be required to commit to complete specific training related to this post. Training options will be discussed with the Depute Headteacher of Glencairn, with responsibility for the peripatetic services for deaf children and young people. There may also be a requirement to undertake necessary training as identified by our NHS partners and the service.
Recent experience working with children in a school situation is essential, as are good communication and interpersonal relationship skills. Experience of working with children/young people who have additional needs is also essential.
Prior to commencing in this role, you are required to become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme member. SSSC registration may also be required dependent on placement.
